Greece's Ambrotos have returned with a new recording which continues the philosophical style of black metal from t heir previous releases and this is a review of their 2022 album "Transcendental Mastery" which will be released in April as a joint effort between Satanath and The End Of Time Records.
Nature sounds start off the album before adding some clean playing into the recording while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the songs also mixing in a great amount of old school influences and growls can also be heard at times.
At times the vocals also adapt to a semi melodic tone along with some of the riffing also getting very technical sounding at times as well as a couple of songs also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts, some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording, keyboards and avant garde style clear vocals can also be heard briefly and as the album progresses the music also gets more progressive sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Pre-Socratic Philosophy and Ideas.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ambrotos and if you are a fan of philosophical black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Transcendental Mastery" and "Daimonica". 8 out of 10.
