Nyrak are an international duo with members from Germany and Belgium that plays a very experimental and progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2022 album "Malvs".
A very dark sounding synth orientated intro starts off the album while clean vocals can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction. Violin's and cellos can also be heard at times along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also give the album more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the riffs also add in a lot of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and the music also mixes in a great amount of orchestration.
At times the music also gets very experimental and progressive sounding sounding along with some songs also adding in a small amount of growls as well as a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and as the album progresses a brief use of classical guitars and clean playing can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and German and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Nyrak are a very great sounding experimental and progressive black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Spiegelscherven" "Woken" and "Lost". 8 out of 10.
