Belarus's Downcross has returned with a new album which continues the satanic style of black metal from their previous releases and this is a review of their 2022 album "Hexapoda Triumph" which was released by Cavum Atrum Rex.
Ritualistic soundscapes and synths start off the album before introducing grim yet high pitched black metal screams onto the recording which also takes the music into a heavier direction. All of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
The songs also add in a decent amount of old school influences while also remaining very modern sounding at the same time. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the album along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a later track is also a synth orientated instrumental before returning back to a heavier direction on the remaining songs, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly towards the end. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Death and Darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Downcross and if you are a fan of satanic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Trumpets Salute The Demise Of Death" "Fist of Hubris" and "Invariant Fall Of The Doomed". 8 out of 10.
