Apogee are a duo from France that plays a mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self released 2022 ep "From The Shadows of A Consumed Earth".
A very powerful bass guitar sound starts off the ep along with some heavier riffing a few seconds later. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing as well as some death metal growls also being utilized at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling while the guitar solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with one song also introducing synths onto the recording.
clean playing can also be heard briefly as well as the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences. When guitar solos and leads are finally utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and spoken word parts are also added on the closing song. The production sounds very professional while t he lyrics cover Occultism, Darkness and Misanthropy themes.
In my opinion Apogee are a very great sounding mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cradle Full of Scum" and "F.A.I.L". 8 out of 10.
