Iselder are a solo project from Wales that plays a nationalist form of black metal and this is a review of his 2022 album "Metel Du Gwir Cymreig" which will be released in April by Marlowoleath Records.
Spoken word parts start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams. Some of the riffing and shouts also add in touches of punk and oi along with the music also showing an influence of the 90's second wave Norwegian era.
Most of the music sticks to a mid tempo direction as well as adding the use of any fast playing or blast beats except for the closing track while melodies can only be heard briefly in the guitar riffing. All of the songs also avoid the use of any guitar solos and leads to focus more on a primitive style and the whole album also sticks to a heavier direction.
Iselder plays a style of black metal that is very raw, mid tempo and nationalist sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Welsh Nationalism, History and Heritage themes.
In my opinion Iselder are a very great sounding nationalist black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cyflwyniad" "Cont" "LlosiBwriadol" and "Rhyfela". 8 out of 10.
