Romania's Katharos XIII has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of depressive black, doom metal and dark jazz and this is a review of their 2022 album "Chthonian Transmissions" which was released by Loud Rage Music.
Dark sounding keyboards start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some elements of jazz being added into some parts of the recording which also gives the music more of an avant garde feeling.
Female vocals are also added on some of the songs as well as some clear male vocals also being utilized at times while saxophones can also be heard in certain sections of the album. The slower sections of the music are also very heavily rooted in doom metal and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with some blast beats also being added when the music speeds up briefly. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as one track also introducing depressive yet high pitched black metal screams onto the album as well as most of the songs also sticking to a slower direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover itinerant cosmonauts, telluric existence and dreams.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Katharos XIII and if you are a fan of depressive black, doom metal and dark jazz, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Golden Season" and "From The Light of Flesh". 8 out of 10.
