Forest Thrall are a solo project form the new England region of the United States that plays a very raw form of occult black metal and this is a review of his 2022 ep "I" which will be released in April by Eternal Death.
A synth orientated intro starts off the ep along with some ritualistic bells, throat singing and spoken word parts before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and when tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling.
The tracks also add in a good amount of 90's influences as well as a touch of the first wave era while blast beats are also added into the faster sections of the songs. A small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing briefly and throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Forest Thrall plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism, Magick, Occultism and the Horned God.
In my opinion Forest Thrall are a very great sounding raw occult black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "He Is Here (Horned God Rising)" and "The Shadow Of The Mad God Walks Here". 8 out of 10.
