Ceremoniële Walging are a solo project from the Netherlands that plays a very raw, repetitive, atmospheric and melancholic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Vergeet de eeuwenoude haat nooit" which was released by Babylon Doom Cult Records.
A very dark, heavy and lo-fi sound starts off the ep along with some drum beats a few seconds later. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams Atmospheric sounds are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music while the music also brings in a very melancholic orientated sounding atmosphere.
At times the music also gets very repetitive sounding while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling and all of the songs also stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
Ceremoniële Walging plays a style of black metal that is very raw, atmospheric and melancholic sounding as well as avoiding the use of any blast beats or fast riffing to create something very different sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover nostalgia, disappointment, hate, living in the past and being stuck in life until nothing but bitter, loathing hate remains.
In my opinion Ceremoniële Walging are a very great sounding raw, repetitive, atmospheric and melancholic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Diepgewortelde verafschuwing van de mensheid" and "Het nieuwe als een oude kanker". 8 out of 10.
