Teratolith Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Teratolith is an art-focused initiative, focused on both music and visual creations. The main goal of the project is to explore these parts of our universe which remain hidden from our perception and can be interpreted as negative, inhuman and hostile towards all life.

2.So far you have released 2 ep's that are also being to be released a s a single album in September, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recordings?

For those who are interested in naming things, Teratolith can be described as dissonant, chaotic blend of black metal and dark ambient, with some elements of death metal. The music is not meant to be pleasant or easy to digest - the vision of the world is channeled into it - and the world isn't a nice place.

3.A lot of your lyrics also cover occult themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

Death, as both the great vanquisher and the creator. We see death as the main driving force of the universe, fueling the cycle of rebirth, on both molecular and cosmic levels. I cannot say it can fit in any existing occult system - but for us all the names, signs and clearly defined ways of doing things can lead only to failure. One should seek his own ways to expand. Blind following of the others is not one of them.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Teratolith'?

Monstrosity turned into stone. A fossilized monument of the mankind long gone.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork on the upcoming album cover?

The eclipse symbolises an event of great significance, an omen which can lead to destruction. I interprete it on the personal level - the darkness that surrounds me, both inside and outside. On the other hand, the thorns depict all the "bad things" we do to ourself, the conscious decisions that lead to our downfall, deterioration of our lives on many levels. It is extremely easy to fall under the pressure of drugs, alcohol or stress but remaining on the bottom of the society and still be able to exist requires a great deal of mental strength.

6. You have your band listed as being from an unknown location, can you tell us a little bit more about your keeping your identity anonymous?

The art should speak for itself. Identity of the members is not important.

7.On your Instagram you also have a great amount of pictures and drawings, can you tell us a little bit more about the meanings behind these pictures?

Not really, as most of them should be seen as some form of automatic writing (or - in this particular matter - drawing). I have almost no control over what I am creating. Sometimes it is just an improvisation and sometimes I just channel the things I feel or the things I think that surround me and my life.

8.The full length is coming out on 'Brucia Records', how did you get in contact with this label?

Just a random chance, I stumbled upon them on Instagram. To be honest, I don't remember how it all started.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and avant garde metal?

Minuscule. We are not very good at promoting our creations, hahah.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

It is hard to say, as it's all about experimentation. It may be either extremely complex, even to the point of being unlistenable, or very raw and repetitive.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Lots of electronic music, from both extreme ends of the spectrum - from drone to crossbreed. Nowadays I listen mostly the creations from the circles of the Mystískaos.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Open your veins and sacrifice yourself on the altar of cosmic insignificance.
