Plague Organ are a band from the Netherlands that plays an avant garde mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Orphan" which will be released on August 28th by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.
Throat singing starts off the album before going into a very fast and brutal direction which also introduces blast beats onto the recording. Avant garde structures are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music while the only track that is presented on the album is also 40 minutes in length.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while demonic sounding death metal growls can also be heard at times. Some of the music also get very repetitive sounding along with the song also repeating the same fast black metal bass guitar riff for long periods of time.
When synths are utilized they also give the song more of a ritualistic and dark ambient feeling along with the track also having its psychedelic moments as well as the music also mixing in elements of free form, jazz, krautrock and drone and the production also sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi.
In my opinion Plague organ are a very great sounding avant garde mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. 8 out of 10.
