Haxenzijrkell are a duo from Germany that plays a raw and resolute form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Die Nachtseite" which will be released in September by Amor Fati.
Dark sounding synths start off the album along with some spoken word parts that also are used on the later songs while all 3 of the tracks are very long and epic in length. Melodies are also added into some of the heavier riffing as well as most of the vocals also being high pitched black metal screams.
Soundscapes can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the music also brings in more of a modern style of black metal. Sinister sounding atmospheres are also a very huge part of the recording and most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction and the spoken word parts also make the songs more ritualistic sounding, on the closing track a brief use of fast tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling.
Haxenzijrkell plays a style of black metal that is very raw, atmospheric, ritualistic and transcendental sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and is a concept album divided into 3 chapters the Path, the Flame and the Awakening.
In my opinion Haxenzijrkell are a very great sounding raw and resolute black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Im Labyrinth der Dunkelheit". 8 out of 10.
