Blood Red Fog are a duo from Finland that plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Fields Of Sorrow" which will be released on August 29th by Deviant Records.
A synth orientated intro starts off the album along with some elements of ambient before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while synths also return on some of the later tracks. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the music also having its depressive and melancholic moments. Clean playing can also be heard on some of the tracks as well as some psychedelic elements also being added into certain sections of the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Finnish and cover death, darkness and destruction themes.
In my opinion Blood Red Fog are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gallows Poles And Shallow Graves" "Ever Returning Genocide" and "Fields Of Sorrow". 8 out of 10.
