Alicide are a duo from California that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 ep "First Prayer".
Keyboards and operatic female vocals start off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style and the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the tremolo picking also giving the songs more of a raw feeling when it is utilized, clean playing and spoken word parts can also be heard at times and one of the tracks is also an experimental instrumental.
Alicide plays a style of black metal that is very raw, modern, atmospheric and experimental sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Alicide are a very great sounding raw, atmospheric and experimental black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Banished". 8 out of 10.
