Dystopia are a band from the Netherlands that plays a very aggressive and melancholic form of black metal with some elements of psychedelic, progressive, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Geen Weg Out" which will be released in September by Wolves Of Hades.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. The riffs also add in a great amount of melody while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams. Trumpets and Trombones can also be heard briefly along with one track also introducing acoustic guitars onto the album.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with some tracks also adding in some clean vocals. The black metal screams also get very depressive and melancholic sounding in some parts of the album as well as the music also having its progressive and psychedelic moments, elements of death and doom metal can also be heard in the heavier sections of the songs. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover humanity's feeble ways and the madness and hastiness of our personal weakness.
In my opinion Dystopia are a very great sounding aggressive and melancholic black metal band with some elements of psychedelic, progressive, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Razernij II" "Van De Muete Vervreemed" and "De Dwass Komt Voor De Redder". 8 out of 10.
