Minnesota's Amiensus have returned with a new recording which continues the atmospheric and progressive style of black metal from their previous releases and this is a review of their 2020 album "Abreaction" which will be released in October by Transcending Records.
Clean playing starts off the album which also gives the songs more of a progressive feeling along with some melodic riffing a few seconds later will clear vocals are also utilized at times. The solos and leads also use a great amount of melody and high pitched black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording.
The music also has its atmospheric moments while the faster sections of the tracks also use a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Growls can also be heard in some parts of the album along with one track also introducing stringed instruments onto the recording as well as some songs also adding in a small amount of keyboards, acoustic guitars are also added on some of the tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover philosophy, theology, psychology and mythology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Amiensus and if you are a fan of atmospheric and progressive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Beneath The Waves" "A Convocation Of Spirits" "Cold Viscera" and "Iconcoclasm". 8 out of 10.
