Lord Almighty are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays a progressive mixture of black and sludge metal with some elements of NWOBHM, hardcore and blues rock and this is a review of their self released 2020 album "Wither" which will be released in October.
Nature sounds start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of hardcore can also be heard in the mid tempo sections of the songs while the slower riffs also add in the heaviness of sludge metal. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the music also having its progressive moments, Some of the clean playing and acoustic guitars also adds in touches of 70's era blues and classic rock as well as the percussion also giving the music more of a tribal feeling when it is utilized. some of the riffing and solos also shows an influence of NWOBHM and the music also has its experimental moments and as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover different emotions and life experiences.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Lord Almighty and if you are a f an of progressive black and sludge metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cry Of The Earth" "Rise" "Adrift" and "Hooded three". 8 out of 10.
