WinterheartH are a band from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that has had music reviewed before in this zine plays a progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Riverbed Empire" which will be released on August 14th by Still Heavy Productions.
Tragic sounding keyboards start off the album while operatic female vocals can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier musical direction. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and ethnic style instruments can also be heard briefly.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while some of the riffing also mixes in elements of thrash metal. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard along with the tremolo picking also giving the songs more of a raw feeling.
At times the music gets very progressive sounding along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Synths can also be heard in some parts of the recording as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style, clean playing can also be heard on some of the tracks.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with death metal growls also being utilized briefly as well as some quest appearances from members of Devilment and Beyond Creation. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the timeless paradox of a beautiful evil by detailing lesser known pieces of Newfoundland Folklore and the intricacies of global atrocities.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from WinterheartH and if you are a fan of progressive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Marshlands" "Riverbed Empire" "Charmed(By the Dead)" and "Infliction". 8 out of 10.
