Skyborne Reveries are a solo project from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Utterly Away" which will be released in September by Naturmacht Productions.
Rain and thunder sounds start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the guitar solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the synths also gives the songs more of an atmospheric feeling. At times the vocals also get deep sounding as well as adding in a brief use of death metal growls along with some elements of doom metal also being added into the slower sections of the songs.
One of the tracks is also an ambient instrumental along with some tracks also being very long and epic in length, orchestra sounds can also be heard in certain sections of the recording, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and some songs also add in a small amount of melodic vocals and as the album progresses an instrumental track also introduces clean playing into the music. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon the connection between man and nature.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Skyborne Reveries and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Moon Viewers" "Our Trendilled Life" and "Wandering Over Withered Fields". 8 out of 10.
