Vimur/The Timeless Everpresent/Avantgarde Music/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Atlanta,  Georgia's  Vimur  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "The  Timeless  Everpresent"  which  will b e  released  on  July  5th  by  Avantgarde  Music.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also add  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  riffs  also  add  in a   decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  growls  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  battle  samples,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  at  times  and  a  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  clear  singing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  truths  beyond  material  existence. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Vimur  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire,  Glory  And  Thinking"  and  "Astride  The  Centuries".  8  out  of  10.

     

Vigor Mortis/Self Titled/Erie Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Vigor  Mortis  are  a  solo  project  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  shoegaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  2024  album  which  was  released  by  Erie  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clear  vocals  a  few  seconds  while  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  sounding  at  times.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  whispers  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  The  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Keyboards  are  also  added  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

   Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  being  instrumentals,  elements  of  shoegaze  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  existentialism,  esotericism,  beingness  and  consciousness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vigor  Mortis  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  progressive  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mina  Olen  Monet"  and  "Kaunes  katharsiksessa".  8  out  of  10.

Show Me A Dinosaur/Plantgazer/AOP Records/2024 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  Show  Me  A  Dinosaur  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  blackgaze  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Plantgazer"  which  will  be  re-issued  on  July  26th,  2024  by  AOP  Records.

  A  very  heavy  post  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  shoegaze  style  along  with  some  post  rock   orientated  clean  playing  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  clean  vocals  onto  the  album,  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  a  person  locked  inside  his  home.

  In  my  opinion  Show  Me  A  Dinosaur  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  blackgaze  and  post  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Marsh"  and  "Hum".  8  out  of  10.

Carnivora's Feast/Teufel/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Carnivora's  Feast  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  an  experimental  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  album  "Teufel".

  A  very  apocalyptic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  sounding  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  growls  into  the  music  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  classic  extreme  metal  style.

  Synths  and  whispered  voices  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard,  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Carnivora's  Feast  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Commander"  "The  Force"  "Aurora"  and  "We,  The  Foul  And  The  Wretched".  8  out  of  10.

True Black Dawn/Of Thick-circling Shadows/W.T.C Productions.2024 Full Length Review

 

  True  Black  Dawn  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  an  aggressive,  melodic,  occult  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Of  Thick-circling  Shadows"  which  will  be  released  on  July  30th. by  W.T.C  Productions.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  z  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  lot  of  old  school  influences  as  well  as  remaining  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  

  Synths  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  as  well  as  the  album  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  more  of  the  faster  style  of  earlier  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  True  Black  Dawn  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  aggressive,  melodic,  occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Algol"  "The  Wind  From  The  Red  Cloud"  'Worlds  In  The  Mirror"  and  "The  End  Of  our  Age".  8  out  of  10.
