Mount Depression/Act Of Illusion/2025 EP Review

 

  Argentina's  Mount  Depression  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  ep  "Act  Of  Illusion".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  depressive  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  all of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and w hen t he  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a raw  feeling  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  along  with  the  synths  also  adding  in  touch  of  ambient  when  they  are  utilized  briefly.  

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  introduced  on  the  recording  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  interlude  also  adding  in  touches  of  classical  music  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  one  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  guitar  solos  and  leads.  and  spoken  words  are  also  added  towards  the  end  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  solitude  and  death  themes.

  Argentina's  Mount  Depression  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  ep  "Fullmoon  Killer".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  vocals  are  mostly    depressive  black  metal  screams.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  short  in  length  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  lo-fi  sounding  while  some  of  the  vocals  also  mix  in  some  deep  growls.  Some  of  the  slower  riffing  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  doom  metal  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  more  of  a  mid  tempo  direction,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  and  one  track  is  also  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Mount  Depression  goes  for  more  of  a  slower  style  of  depressive  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  suicide,  solitude  and  mythology  themes.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Argentina's  Mount  Depression  which  shows  the  music  returning  to  more  of  a  depressive  black  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  ep  "Stormgarden".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on t he  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  short  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Most  of  the  songs  also  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  along  with  each  track  also  bringing  in  a  different  style  and  the  ep  closes  with  an  ambient  instrumental  which  also  adds  in  some  keyboards.

  On  this  recording  Mount  Depression  returns  to  more  of  a  heavier  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  solitude  and  suicide  themes.

Mount Depression/The Art Of Seeing/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Argentina's  Mount  Depression  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal,  noise,  drone  and  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "The  Art  Of  Seeing".

  Dark,  heavy  and  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  distorted  drones.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  depressive  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  briefly.

 

 A  lot  of  the  music  also  sounds  improvised  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  and  noise.  Percussion  and  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  On  this  recording  Mount  Depression  takes  depressive  black  metal,  drone,  ambient  and  drone  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  recording  as  well  as  sticking  to  mostly  an  instrumental  direction  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Mount  Depression  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black  metal,  ambient,  drone  and  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "About  The  Gunman  Philosophy"  and  "A  Knife  Glorification".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Mount  Depression  which  continues  the  depressive  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  the  ep  was  recorded  live  and  self  released  in  2022  and  called  "The  Live  And  The  Knife  Option:  Live  In  Hatefest  III".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also be  heard  briefly.

  Mount  Depression  are  a  band  from  Argentina  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  a  depressive  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  album  "Bloodstained"  which  also  consists  of  re-recorded  and  new  versions  of  songs  from  their  first  4  albums  and  previously  unreleased  tracks,  outtakes  and  demos.

  High  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  synths  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  goes  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction  on  some  of  the  tracks.  Melodies  can  also be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  of  the  songs  also  being  very  short  in  length  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples.

  Distorted  soundscapes  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  also  introduces  elements  of  noise  onto  the  recording  along  with a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumentals.  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of clean  playing.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  solitude  and  suicide  themes.

Mount Depression/Spectral Drone Transmission/Nailed Nazarene Industries/2019 EP Review

  Mount  Depression  are  a  band  from  Argentina  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before and  on  this  recording  moves  away  from  their  depressive  black  metal  style  and  goes  into  an  experimental  drone  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Spectral  Drone  Transmission"  which  was  released  by  Nailed  Nazarene  Industries.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  ep  along  with  a  brief  use  of  demonic  voices  while  both  of  their  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  clean  playing  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  The  music  also  has  it's  experimental  moments   while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  ambient  style  drones.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  harsh  noises  and  power  electronics  being  added  in  for  a  few  seconds  and  both  of  the  tracks  are  instrumentals  and  capture  on  improv  atmosphere.

  On  this  recording  Mount  Depression  moves  away  from  the  depressive  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  goes  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  experimental,  drone  and  harsh  noise  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  lo-fi.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mount  Depression  and  while  some  depressive  black  metal  fans  might  not  like  the  new  style,  I  can  see  this  finding  an  audience  among  fans  of  experimental,  drone  and  harsh  noise.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Unreal  Sounds  From  The  Grave".  8  out  of  10.

  Mount  Depression  are  a  band  from  Argentina  that  plays  a  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2018  album  "The  Dream  Of  The  Flesh".

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  bring  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  as well  as  mixing  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  while  clean  guitars  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  whispered  vocals  also  being  used  at  times.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard.

  One  of  the  tracks  is  an  instrumental,  while  the  music  when  it  finally  speeds  up  for  a  few  seconds  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  along  with   one  of  the  later  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  introduces  deep  vocals onto  the  recording  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as w ell  as  some  songs  also  bringing  in  clean  playing.

  Mount  Depression  plays  a  style  of  depressive  black  metal  that  is  mostly  slow  or  mid  tempo  along  with  a  touch  of  dark  ambient,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  solitude  and  suicide  themes.
