Ad Infinitum/Hypnagogic Conveyence/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Kentucky's  solo  project  Ad  Infinitum  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  form  of  ambient  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  album  "Hypnagogic  Conveyence".

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  while  atmospheric  sounding  synths  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  at  times  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Most  of  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  as  well  as  speeding  up  on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody,  elements  of  ambient  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  album  and  there  are  also  a  couple  of  instrumentals.

  On  this  recording  Ad  Infinitum  goes  for  more  of  a  mid  tempo,  cosmic,  ambient  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  cosmos,  dreams  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ad  Infinitum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  cosmic,  atmospheric  and  ambient  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Transmedium  Crest"  and  "Vacuum  Decay".  8  out  of  10.

Ad Infinitum/Tristitae/2020 EP Review

  Ad  Infinitum  are  a  solo  project  from  Kentucky  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  Appalachian  and  atmospheric  form  of  ambient  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2020  ep  "Tristitae".

  Ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  ep and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  an  atmospheric  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  a  heavy  influence  of  the  early  2000's  usbm  style  while  the  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  when  they  are  utilized  briefly  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  A  couple  of  the  later  tracks  are  also  an  instrumental  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Ad  Infinitum  sticks  to  mostly  a  mid  tempo  of  ambient  black  metal  as  well  as  having  its  atmospheric  moments.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ad  Infinitum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Into  The  Aura"  and  "Void".  8  out  of  10.

Ad Infinitum/Woven Within/Fragile Bunch Recordings/2014 Cassette Review

  Ad  Infinitum  are  a  band  from  Kentucky  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  ambient  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  cassette  "Woven  Within"  which  was  released  by  Fragile  Bunch  Recordings.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  the  music  starts  going  for  a  more  slow  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  while  also  keeping  the  atmospheric  elements  in  their  musical  sound  and  there  are  also  some  melodies  being  added into  the  music  after  awhile  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  samples  being  utilized  at  times.

  As  the  album  progresses  the  music  starts  adding  in  more  fast  and  raw  black  metal  elements  along  with  some  blast  beats  being  use d in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  there  are  also  a  good  amount  of  dark  ambient  elements  and  drones being  brought  into  the  music  by  the  synths  which  also  enhances  the  atmospheric  black  metal  sound  this  band  creates  with  their  musical  sound.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  starts  to  find  a  perfect  balance  between  the  fast,  raw  and  slower  atmospheric  parts  on  the  later  tracks  and  the  ambient  parts  makes  the  music  sound  more  occult  and  dark  as  well  as  the  album  containing  an  all  ambient  instrumental  before  returning  back  to  a  more  black  metal  direction  on  the  later  tracks  which  also  sound  very  different  from each other  while  you  can  still  tell  that  it  is  the  same  band  the  whole  time  and  the  last  track  is  a  very  long  ambient/drone  piece  which  alos  brings  back  the  spoken  word  samples.

  Ad  Infiniitum  create  a  very  diverse  sound  with  their  music  with  the  main  element  being  atmospheric  black  metal  but  there  are  also  some  melodic,  fast  and  raw  moments  in  their  musical  sound  as  well  as  a  good  doe  of  dark  ambient  and  drone  which  makes  their  music  really  stand  out,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark, astral  and  metaphysical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ad  Infinitum  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric,  ambient  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Heliacal  Rising"  "Etherial"  and  "Woven  Within".  8  out  of  10.
