Temple Koludra/Seven! Sirens! To A Lost Archetype/Transcending Obscurity Records/2019 CD Review

  Temple  Koludra  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Seven!  Sirens!  To  A  Lost  Archetype"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  A  decent  amount  of  dissonant  structures  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  atmospheric  sounding  at  times.

  Elements  of  death  metal  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Indian  style  instruments  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  and  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  ethnic  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  technical  style  as  well  as  having  their  melodic  moments  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  at  times.  Melodic  chants,  death  metal  growls  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  only  small  touches  of  ambient  remain  from  their  previous  releases  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Indian  Spirituality  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Temple  Koludra  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Trimurti"  "Namurupa"  and  "White  I  Trance".  8/5  out  of  10.

Temple Koludra/Self Titled/2013 EP Review

  Temple  Koludra  are  a solo  project from  Germany  that  plays  an  ambient  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  and  self  titled  2013  ep.

  A  very  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  whispered  vocals  that  turn  into  melodic  female  chanting  and  singing  which  is  also  used  again  on  a  later  track  as  well  and  after  a  while  you  can  hear  some  demonic  vocals  on  the  recording  along  with  the  sounds  of  rain  and  fire  before  going  into  a  more  heavy  black  metal  direction  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

  There  is  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  present  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  grim,  high  pitched  screams  and  the  music  also  mixes  the  faster  raw  parts  with  the  atmospheric  and  ambient  elements  and  you  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill  being  utilized  in  the  guitar  riffing

 At  times spoken  word  ritualistic  parts  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  when  leads  and  solos  are  added  into  the  music  they  bring  in  more  of  a  modern  and  technical  black  metal  feeling  to  the  music  and  the  songs  also  bring  in    decent  amount  of  blast  beats  at  times  and  at  times  the  synths  also add  an  epic  feeling  to  the  recording  in  the  parts  where  they  are  utilized.

  Temple  Koludra  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  has  its  ambient  roots  but  a  lot  more  heavier,  aggressive,  fast  and  guitar  than  most  bands  of  this  genre  while  still  displaying  a  great  amount  of  atmosphere  and  melody,  the  production  sounds very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Occultism  and  Germanic  Paganism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Temple  Koludra  are  a  very  great  sounding  black  metal  band  with  an  ambient  edge  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out t his  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Ginnungagap"  and  "Zornissen".  8  out  of  10.
