Ancient Torment/Follow The Echo of Chaos/Eternal Death/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Rhode  Island's  Ancient  Torment  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Follow  The  Echo  Of  Chaos"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Eternal  Death.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  a  lot  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  The  album  also  adds  in  a  lot  of   influences  from  the  Finnish  and  Québécois  bands  mixed  in  with  their  own  style  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Synths  are  also  added  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  music  sticking  to  more  of  an  old  school  direction,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Ancient  Torment  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while t he  lyrics  cover  the  mysteries  of  death  worship,  the  swirling  depths  of  depravity,  suffering  an  infernal  release.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ancient  Torment  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hanging  From  A  Dead  Star"  and  "Rotting  Temperament".  8  out  of  10.

Ancient Torment/Force Me Upon Death/Old Pain Records/2024 EP Review

 

  Rhode  Island's  Ancient  Torment  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  ep  "Force  Me  Upon  Death"  which  was  released  by  Old  Pain  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  tradition.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Ancient  Torment  goes  for  a  very  fast, raw  and  traditional  form  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  misanthropy  and  self -destruction  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ancient  Torment  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Broken  Lays  The  Mask  Borne  Against  Them".  8  out  of  10.

Ancient Torment/Haxen/The Howling Gale/Eternal Death/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Rhode  Island's  Ancient  Torment  and  Haxen  called  "The  Howling  Gale"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Eternal  Death  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ancient  Torment  who  returns  with  a  very  raw  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  Finnish  style.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  of  their  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  all  of  their  music  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Blasphemy,  Sex,  Lust,  Death,  old  new  England  and  Inebriation  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ancient  Torment  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Outlaw  Cleansed  Waters"

  Next  up  is  Haxen  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times.

    When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  When  guitar  solos and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  style  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  self-indulgence,  afterlife,  blood,  fire  and  death  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Haxen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Black  Eyes  Of  Dog".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  old  school  and  satanic  black  metal.  8 out  of  10.

Ancient Torment/Satan's Legacy Come Flesh/Eternal Death/2019 EP Review

  Ancient  Torment  are  a  band  from  Rhode  Island  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Satan's  Legacy  Come  Flesh"  which  will be  released  in  May  by  Eternal  Death.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  A  great  amount  of  90's  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  the  band  musical  style  but  also  keeping  it  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  towards  the  end  a  brief  use  of  growls  can  also  be  heard.

 Ancient  Torment  plays  a  style  of  satanic  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  satanic  and  traditional  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Rites  Of  Violence  and  Sex.

  In  my  opinion  Ancient Torment  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  satanic  black  metal  band  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Satan's  Legacy  Come  Flesh" and  "EveIn  Estrus".  8  out  of  10.
