Nokturnal Mortum/Hurt/Oriana Music/2026 EP Review

 

  Nokturnal  Mortum  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  folk  influenced  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Hurt"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Oriana  Music.

  Folk  instruments  start  off  the  ep  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  war  samples.  Keyboards  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  and  symphonic  sounding  while  the  vocals  start  out  with  more  of  an  angry  shouting  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Electronic  music  sounds  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  one of  the  tracks  also  being. an instrumental.  On  later  tracks  the  vocals  add  in  more  of  a  black  metal  screaming  approach  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  the  closing  track  was  also  recorded  life  and  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  vocals,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  human  bravery.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nokturnal  Mortum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  band,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eight  Days  To  Spring"  and  "The  Forgotten  Ages  of  Victories".  8/5  out  of  10.

Kommandant/Disciplin/Nova/Waexaerg/Wolf Axis/Gibur/Promethean Vanguard/2026 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Kommandant,  Norway's  Disiplin,  Italy's  Nova,  Waexaerg,  Wold  Axis  and  Gibur  called  "Promethean  Vanguard"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  ATMF  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Disiplin  who  return  with  their  extreme  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  spoken  word  samples  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams. 

  Both  of  their  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  war  and  hatred  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Disciplin  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  extreme  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Turbo  Sanguis".

  Next  up  is  Kommandant  who  return  with  their  fast  and  aggressive  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  while  both  of  their  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  their  side  of  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  some  death  metal  growls  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  the  brutality  of  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  death  and  hatred  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kommandant  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  fast  and  aggressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Grand  Alliance".

  Next  up  is  Nova  who  return  with  their  epic  style  of  pagan  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  epic  sound  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  an  angry  black  metal  style  mixed  in  with  a  few  growls.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  their  side  of  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Spoken  words  and  folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  closing  track  also  adds  in  clean  playing,  synths  and  spoken  words.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  t e lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Esotericism  and  Elitism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nova  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Uova  del  Drago".

  Next  up  is  Wolf  Axis  a  band  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  spoken  word  samples  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  an  angry  black  metal  style.  Militant  beats  are  also  utilized  briefly.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  their  side  of  the  split  more  of  a  raw  feeling,  melodies  and  synths  are  also  used  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  and  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Wolf  Axis  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Paralysis  Of  Faith".

  Next  up  is  Waexerg  a  band  that  plays  an  industrial  style  of  blackened  warnoise.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  industrial  beats  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  bestial  growls  while  both  of  their  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Spoken  words  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  album  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  their  side  of  the  split  more  of  a  raw  feeling,  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  War,  U.F.O's  and  Conspiracy  Theory  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Waexerg  are  a  very  great  sounding  industrial  blackened  warnoise  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Indoeuropean  Warnoise".   

  Closing  the  album  is  Gibur  a  solo  project  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  synths,  programmed  beats  and  heavy  riffing  while  the  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Spoken  words  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  some  melodies  and  the  track  sticks  to  a  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  Runes  and  Esotericism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Gibur  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  emtal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  and  war  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  U.S.A's  solo  project  Hollow  Serpent  Tooth  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  raw  and  old  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  ep  "V:  Make  it  Dead"  which  was  re-issued  in  2026  by  Feral  Heart  Productions.

  Synth  orientated  drones  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  elements  of  harsh  noise  are  added  into  the  background.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  the  synths  also  add  in  some  atmospheric  touches.

 The  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  on  one  of  the  tracks  the  music  also  goes  into  a  slower  direction  along  with  some  choirs  also  added  on  the  outro.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  national  socialism,  accelerationism,  isolation,  nostalgia,  misanthropy  and  urban  decay.

  Hollow  Serpent  Tooth  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  States  that  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  black  metal,  power  electronics,  noise  and  experimental  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  compilation  album  "Caput  Lupinum"  which  was  released  by  Feral  Heart  Productions  and  consists  of both  of  his  2021  ep's.

  Percussions,  power  electronics  and  harsh  noise  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  aggressive  industrial  style  vocals  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  lot  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody,  blast  beats  and  raw  tremolo  picking  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  music.

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Hate  Forest  returns  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Against  All  Odds"  which  will  be  released  on  April  25th  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  deep  growling  style  while  high  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  all  of  the   musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  most  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  very  fast  and  primitive  direction.  All  of  the  songs  also  avoid  the  use  of  any  solos  or  leads  along  with  certain  sections  of  the  album  also  adding  in  a  few  seconds  of  mid  tempo  sections  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Hate  Forest  goes  for  a  very  fast  and  raw  style  of  pagan  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Mythology,  Mysticism,  Nature  and  Darkness  themes.

  Ad  Hominem  are  a  solo  project  originally  from  France  But  now  resides  in  Italy  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  very  raw  and  destructive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Totalitarian  Black  Metal"  which  will  be  released  on  February  28th  by  Goatfucker  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Elements  of  black'nroll  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  along  with  some  angry  shouts  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  spoken  word  samples.

   All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in a  brief  use  of  World  War  II  era  music  samples.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  War,  Hate  Anti  Abrahamic  Religions  and  Anti  Woke  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Ad  Hominem  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  destructive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gas  Mask  Destruction"  "Choke  The  Woke"  and  "Stairway  To  Oven".  8/5  out  of  10.

Jewish Juice Interview

 

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album? 

Cernunnos: After the recording we spent a lot of time creating the artwork. Then we just started to compose new tracks and organized a live performance. 

2.In August you had released a new album, musically how does it differ form the stuff you have released in the past?

 Cernunnos: This album deals with different themes we usually write about (WW2 for example), All the lyrics are in Italian and the sound and composition has reached an emotional maturity for us.

 Beaker: The direction we are following is leading us towards an a more epic and meditative mood then before, but still we like play classic and fast black metal songs. 

3.The band was broken up for 6 years, what was the cause of the split and the decision to reform?

 Cernunnos: I've always thought it has been a pause, not a split. We always have been friends before we played and we remained so. It has been easy to start again where we left off. 

4.A lot of your lyrics cover national socialism, can you tell us a little bit more about what these views mean to you? 

Cernunnos: In this album the historical themes dealt with differs from National Socialism and WW2. Rather we wrote about other past and more recent historical facts and patriotic nationalism. For me, National Socialism is part of European history as a culture that cannot be erased. 

5.The lyrics on the new album where written in Italian while earlier releases showed lyrics written in English, what was the decision behind writing songs in your native language?

 Cernunnos: In the "Fourth Reich" album we tried the lyrics in Italian and from that moment we decided to enhance our language in our style of music 

Beaker: I think that the italian language perfectly suits our music and more, elevates the songs with poetical feelings because we can be inspired by our classical writer of the past.

 6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Jewish Juice'? 

Cernunnos: It is assonant, direct and provocative. 

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

 Cernunnos: The artwork is our creation in a style that recalls "futurism", the drawing represents the goddess Nike, the victory enshrined 

Beaker: In the past we always used third part drawings or photos in the artworks. This time we made it all by our own and we’re very pleased of the result. 

8.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea? 

Cernunnos: Recently we did 2 live shows to regain confidence, we are always open to the idea of play live shows where metal, black metal or nsbm are not discriminated against.

 Beaker: From the beginning we perfectly aware that it wouldn’t be easy to play live shows for us. In these years the live shows have been sporadic. To be honest, it’s not something we’re constantly looking for. We prefer focus on recording.

 9.Over the years most social media platforms and other sources like YouTube, Bandcamp and Discogs have banned most nsbm, do you feel doing things the old school way before such platforms existed has kept the genre alive in the past few years?

 Cernunnos: I think the underground is called that for a reason and that's the beauty of it. If the platforms censor the music, it is only for an image ethic that in no way reflects the policies and ways of imposing themselves of what are now multinationals. For nsbm bands it is an annoying passage that reinforces their belief. Was the National Socialist censorship bad and that of the fake democracies not? 

Beaker: I think so. In some way this kind of music must be confined in the underground channels, and maybe it’s right that. Anyway, I think that it’s not not entirely a loss; I like thinking about a metal music like a musical genre that shouldn’t be mainstream. Last but not least, we’re all over 40 years old and we’re not very confident with the new ways of online music platforms. The previous album was released 11 years ago when the scenario was completely different.

 10.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

 Cernunnos: We are open to those who want us, the rest we kick in the ass.

 11.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal? 

Cernunnos: We don't think we have global resonance even though we are known on all continents. There are those who like our music but not the themes: to these I say that music transmits emotions. If they can feel emotions then they can enjoy it. 

Beaker: Usually we receive positive feedbacks, but I don’t like if there’re both positive or negative feedbacks on principle. 

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

 Cernunnos: Where our music gives us an emotion, there we will go.

 Beaker: We really don’t plan that. All is started from a new riff in the practice room, and then we develop the song based on the moment. 

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? 

Cernunnos: I listen to everything. Metal bands like Immortal, Agalloch, Mayhem, Spite Extreme Wing, Dissection, Haggard, Deicide and many others. Tool is one of my favorite bands.

 Beaker: I have a more classical background. I’m very close to the old school classic sound like the NWOBHM or US power metal. 

14.Does Paganism play any role in your music? 

Cernunnos: I don't believe in religions, but cults fascinate me. Paganism differs from northern to southern Europe, it is part of our history and should be celebrated. 

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? 

Cernunnos: Thank you for the time you dedicate to the underground music and for the work you do giving space to bands like us. I think that the direction taken years ago has an even stronger value today. Thanks again.

  The  sounds  of  wind  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast   beats.

  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  when  guitar  solos  leads  are  added  onto  the  album  they  bring  in  more  of  a  melodic  and  old  school  style.

  Growls  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  couple  of   of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  samples,  clean  playing  is  makes  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  national  Socialism  and  Anti  Semitism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Jewish  Juice  are  a  very  great  sounding  national  socialist  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Contra  Spem"  "Nessuno  potrà  fermare  il  sorgere  del  sole"  and  "Trascendenza,  conoscenza,  onniscienza". 8/5  out  of  10.

Hate Forest/Innermost/Osmose Productions/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Hate  Forest  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Innermost"  which  was  released  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  epic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  deep  growling  style.

  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  A  couple of  the  songs  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  and  throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  hate  Forest  remains  true  to  the  raw  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Mythology,  Mysticism,  Nature,  Nietzscheism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  ano5ther  great  sounding  recording  from  hate  Forest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Those  Whoe  Howl  Inside  the  Snowstorm"  and  "Solitude  In  Starry  December".  8  out  of  10.

Satanic Warmaster/Aamongandr/Werewolf Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  solo  project  Satanic  Warmaster  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  satanic  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  hid  2022  album  "Aamongandr"  which  will  be  released  on  December  30th  by  Werewolf  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  song  also  introducing synths  into  the  music  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they   are utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Lycanthropy,  Darkness  and  War  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Satanic  Warmaster  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bafomet"  and  "Darkness...Triumphator".  8  out  of  10.

Todesstrafe/Battlefield Destroyer (2017-2021)/We Are At War Records/2022 Compilation Album Review

 

  Italy's  duo  Todesstrafe  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the national  socialist  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  compilation  album  "Battlefield  Destroyer  (2017-2021)  which  was  released  by  We  Are  At  War  Records  and  consists  of  songs  that  where  recorded  over  a  4  year  time span.

  WWII  era  military  music  samples  start  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  old  school  influences.

  Throughout  the  compilation  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  war  samples.  Influences  of  RAC  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  as  well as  having  their  raw  and  chaotic  moments.  

  All  of  the  riffing  is  done  on  power  chords,  as  the  compilation  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  vocals  are  also  utilized  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  compilation  closing  with  an  acoustic  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  Europe  and  national  socialism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Todesstrafe  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  national  socialist  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Flame  Still  Burning"  "A  Distant  Thunder"  "A  Deadly  Ritual"  and  "Survival  Instinct".  8  out  of  10.

LeMarchand/Kari Mara/Acta Non Verba Rex/2021 CD Review

 

  LeMarchand  are  a  duo  from  brazil  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Kari  Mara"  which  was  released  by  Acta  Non  Verba  Rex.

  A  nature  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  and  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  bring  in  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere  as  well as  only  being  utilized  on  the  intros  and  outro.  Vocals  are mostly  tortured  sounding  black  metal  screams  which  also  get  very  deep  sounding  at  times.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  old  school  influences  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  acoustic  guitars  and  elements  of  folk  music.

  Clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  as  well  as  the  black  metal  screams  also  going  in  more  of  a  high  pitched  direction  on  later  songs.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  90's  style  along  with  each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  which  also  gives  the  album  more  diversity.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Portuguese  and  English  and  cover  Paganism,  South  American  Mythology,   Occultism,  Satanism  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  LeMarchand  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  pagan  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Saci  -  O  Sádico"  "Guará  -  O  Clado"  and  "Floresta  de  Carne,  Sangue  & Ossos".  8/5  out  of  10.

Terdor/De Goddeloze Tolgaarder/Negra Nit/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Terdor  are  a  duo  from  the  Netherlands  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  avant  garde  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "De  Goddeloze  Tolgaarder"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Negra  Nit.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  both  of  the  tracks  that  are  present  on  this  recording  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  moments  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  showing  an  influence  of  thrash  metal,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  the  band  members  native  tongue  and  cover  War,  Anti  Christianity  and  Classical  Horror  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Terdor  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  and  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "B".  8  out  of  10.

Graveland/Hour Of Ragnarok/Inferna Profundus Records/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Poland's  Graveland  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  epic  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Hour  Of  Ragnarok"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Inferna  Profundus  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  epic  sounding  keyboards  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  touches  of  folk  music  can  also be  heard  at  times.  The  album  also  has  its  symphonic  moments  along  with  the  music  also  remaining  very  true  to  its  90's  roots  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  pagan  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.   

  On  this  recording  Graveland  remains  true  to  the  epic  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Nordic  Mythology  and  Lost  Civilization  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Graveland  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Wolf  Of  Twilight"  "Children  Of  Hyperborea"  and  "Enlightened  by  The  Wisdom  Of  The  Runes".  8/5  out  of  10.

Volkolak/My Blacky/Crush The Desert Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Russia's  Volkolak  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  band  moving  even  more  far  away  from  their  earlier  black  metal  style  and  focusing  more  of  an  pagan  folk  music  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "My  Blacky"  which  was  released  by  Crush  The  Desert  Records.

  Field  recordings  and  winds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dark  soundscapes  a  few  seconds  later  before  adding  in  some  percussion.  Folk  instruments  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album  while  5the  vocals  are  also  done  in  a  very  rough  yet  melodic  style  and  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  pre  Christian  Russia.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  acoustic  guitars  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  Slavic  style  instruments  are  also  added  on  most  of  the  songs  along  with  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  ritualistic  and  tribal  moments.

  On  this  recording  Voolkolak  continue  to  expand  on  the  Slavic  pagan  folk  music  style  of  their  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  Heathenism  and  Ancient  Traditions  with  some  reference  to  both  Nordic  and  Slavic  Pagan  Gods.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  VOlkolak  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  folk  music,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Freedom  Or  Death"  "Valley  Of  Witches"  and  "Raven  Calling  to  The  Sky".  8  out  of  10.

Pesttanz Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Panzerfrost: Of course, Pesttanz is something I've been wanting for a long time, it's a fusion of raw black metal accompanied by the melancholy of the keyboards. It is a band that when taking its first step on the scene I think it has done very well and with a lot of acceptance

 

2.So far you have been a part of a split, released an ep, full length and single, canj you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on these recordings?

Panzerfrost: Mentioning a recording style to this would respond as a old school style since everything is worked from a small studio that I have at home, but if you mean the style of music between the split and the full album, here I will tell you that there is a sudden change , since in the split that we participated our sound was totally brutal ... which was at the time the main idea of pesttanz, Abighor still did not enter 100 in the band and we were awaiting conversations but when we went to the album it was a drastic change when adding the keyboards which we do not handle in the split

 

3.One of your main themes is National Socialism, can you tell us a little bit more about what this means to you?

Panzerfrost:  the NS represents a different way of thinking and working, a distinction between what is really weak and strong, in my case I am faithful to the idea of the supremacy of the strongest, both physically and intellectually. But in question musically it is an open field for the creation of melodies, we can start from a bellicose passage to the solitude of a mystical night full of paganism

 

4.I have noticed a lot of nsbm from Mexico or Latin American usually covers Mayan or Aztec themes but you avoid these types of lyrics, do you have interest in those cultures?

Panzerfrost: I really have no interest in those topics because I was not born in that region, I am from Mexico but like all countries; This is divided by zones and each zone or region has its history ... I am from the North of Mexico where the Mayans or Aztecs never touched land, Our ancestors were very different from them and you could even say enemies ... one of The great differences and of which I am proud is that our ancestors did not believe in gods, since the spirit of Mother Nature was everything ... and one of her thoughts that have marked me a lot is that after death the soul will melt in the fire, it will travel again in the wind, it will be sown in the earth and it will rest in the waters of the rivers

 

5.You also cover a lot of paganism themes with your lyrics, what type of paganism has the most influence on your world view?

Abighor: mostly my lyrics are inspired by nature, since I live with it because of my place of upbringing.

I was born in the north of Argentina where there are still rituals to Mother Earth and Father Sun and certain ancient practices that were not destroyed by Christianity. I write the lyrics thinking about how to accompany the music singing like a surruro of the night or the wind itself, trying to make sure that the voice is not so important.

 

 

6.Originally the project was called 'At The Gates Of The Mountains', what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Pesttanz'?

Panzerfrost: atgom had been just a demo that had no future at the time since it was focused on my main band GAS CHAMBERS after deciding to stop a GC moment, I dedicated myself to return with ATGOM but with a faster, colder and more violent sound, they were created quite a few songs that are still saved for some special occasion, but I noticed that the name was not very to my liking and I did not stick much to the idea of the new music ... One afternoon while editing one of the songs I was listening to one of the songs that I liked the more black metal 2

"pesttanz" by absurd and I decided to take it as a new name for the project ... and later I took up the atgom songs again to ask Abighor for the support of creating lyrics and voices since the songs were only instrumental

 

 

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

Abighor: well make the art thinking of old black metal albums only showing a fictitious idea or characters like medieval stories drawn in a precarious way. I've done a lot of covers for other bands and projects.

 

8.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Panzerfrost: That is a dilemma that I have always faced, working with more people, it is not bad but at times it is exhausting when there is no professionalism in the other musicians, at the moment we are good working in duo, but I do not rule out the idea of having one or two more members

 

9.Recentyl you have done a 'Satanic Warmaster' cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

Not only will it be a cover, it will be an ep of 5 songs in tribute to SWM ... a little more to our style, a lot of keyboard and atmosphere but always faithful to the original riffs ... this is something that I have wanted to do for a long time. and I decided to do it before it's too late or I die haha

10.The new album was released on 'Barbatos Productions', how did you get in contact with this label?

Abighor: I had already been working with the barbatos label, since it was a strong support for the distribution of my music in my other projects (Lux anguis, Cultu mortuo ss, Reich), beyond that many other labels published me in various parts of the world .

but I think the label was perfect to show the album in a place with strong support for National Socialism and Paganism.

I believe that the camarad ermak de barbatos is a strong example of the struggle with politically correct music as it is known today and I will always be grateful to the label for always valuing my musical projects.

 

11.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Panzerfrost: In fact this has surprised me, since we have had too much acceptance ... the full album has just been uploaded to a youtube channel and well it is the video with the most views or reproductions that I have had comparing it with my other project ... and I like this and I am proud to continue working as we have done, of course always giving a better product than the previous one

12.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

 

13.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Panzerfrost I see it becoming one of the pillars of American or Latin American black metal, whatever you like to call it ... something that started as a project is consolidating as a band and it is something that one should not have the luxury of abandoning ... and as I have always said if we did well today we can do better tomorrow
