Chiral/The Twilight Songs(Part One)/Heathen Tribes/2018 EP Review

  Italy's  solo  project  Chiral  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  him  temporary  moving  away  from  his  atmospheric  black  metal  style  to  focus  more  on an  acoustic  and  experimental  form  of  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  ep  "The  Twilight  Songs(Part  One)"  which  was  released  by  Heathen  Tribes.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  ep  before adding  some  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  which  also  brings  in  elements  of  folk  music  along  with  the  only  track  on  this  ep  being  over  30  minutes.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  along  with  some  slide  guitars  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  song.

  Melodic  chants  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  track  while  the  acoustic  guitars  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  full  chords  and  finger  picking.  As  the  song  progresses  the  music  also  starts  incorporating  more  programmed  beats  and  synths  and  towards  the  end  a  brief  use  of  harmonica's  can  also  be  heard.  Most  of  the  music  is  instrumental  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chiral  and  while  the  music  is  not  in  the  black  metal  style  as  previous  releases,  I  can  still  see  fans  of  neo-folk  enjoying  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.

Ah Ciliz/Chiral/Origins/Hypnotic Dirge Records/2017 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Seattle,  Washington's  Ah  Ciliz  and  Italy's  Chiral  both  bands  which  have  also  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  the  album  being  released  in  November  by  Hypnotic  Dirge  Records  and  called  "Origins"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Al  Ciliz  a  band  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  nature  sounds  and  bell's  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  along  with  clean  playing  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  atmospheric  synths  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Al  Ciliz  plays  a  style  of  atmospheric  black  metal  that  is  very  progressive  while  also  adding  in  some  cascadian  touches,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  solitude,  sorrow,  nature  and  ancient  civilization  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Al  Ciliz  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "People  Of  The  Stars".

  Next  up  is  Chiral  a  solo  project  continuing  his  atmospheric  approach  to  post  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  ambient  style  synths  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  modern  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

  Throughout  his  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  second  track  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  some  grim  black  metal  screams  and  clean  vocals and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Chiral  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal  from  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  solitude,  pain  and  introspection  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Queen  Of  The  Setting  Sun".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Chiral/Glazing Light Eternity/Folkvanger Records/2017 Cassette Review

  Italy's  solo  project  Chiral  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2016  album  "Glazing  Light  Eternity"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  June  on  cassette  by  Folkvangr  Records.

  Distorted  drones  and  atmospheric  synths  start  off  the  album  and  after  awhile  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  along  with  some  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  at e utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  songs  also b ring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  and  when  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  they  give  the  songs  more  of  a  folk  and  progressive  music  edge.

  Synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  tracks  along  with  a  great  portion  of  them  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  spoken  word  samples  are  also  used  briefly  along  with  one  track  utilizing  melodic  chants  and  there  is  also  an  instrumental  which  also  adds  in  ambient  touches  and  grim  spoken  vocals  are  added  on  the  closing  track.

  Chiral  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true to  the  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal  while  also  adding  in  more  folk  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  have  a  concept  to  them  and  cover  introspection,  solitude,  pain,  death  and  love  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Haze"  and  "The  Hourglass'.  8  out  of  10.

Chiral/Snow/Heritage/2016 EP Review

 Italy's  solo  project  Chriral  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  atmospheric,  post  black  metal  and  neo-folk  style  of  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  ep  "Snow/Heritage"  which  will  be  released  on  March  22nd.

  A  cover  of  Woman  Is  The  Earth's  "Sage  Moon"  starts  off  the  ep  and  it  begins  with  a  very  raw  guitar  tone  that  slowly  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  the  music  getting  more  melodic  and  atmospheric.

  All  4  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  guitar  leads  bring  in  a  touch  of  post  black  metal  and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  synths  are  used  they  bring in  even  more  of  a  melodic  style  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  acoustic  guitars  that  are  more  in  a  neo-folk  style  and  all of  the  tracks  are  instrumental  along  with  a  couple  of  them  being  all  acoustic  while  the  last  song  shows  a  return  to  black  metal.

  Chiral  creates  an  ep  that  has  one  cover  tune,  2  folk  tracks  and  closes  with  an  atmospheric  black  metal  track of  his  own  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  diversity  with  no  vocals  ever  being  utilized  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal  and  neo  folk,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sage  Moon"  and  "Whiteness(The  Snow  And  The  Borrowed  Lights)".  8  out  of  10.

Chiral/Nightsky/2015 Full Length Review

  Chiral  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric,  and  progressive  form  of  post  black  metal  on  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self released  2015  album  "Nightsky"  which  will  be  released  on  September  10th.

  Nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  that  use  both  full  chords  and  finger  picking  as w ell  as  adding  a  touch  of  neo  folk  to  the  recording  which  also  sets  up  the  mood  for  more  of  a  heavy  and  progressive  style  of  black  metal  that  also  uses  grim  sounding  screams  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length..

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  in  more  of  a  melodic  post  black  metal  direction  and  the  songs  are  also  perfectly  balanced  between  both  acoustic  and  heavy  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  harmonica's  briefly  and  there  is  also  a  small  amount  of  whispers  being  utilized  at  times  and  when  synths  are  brought  onto  the  recording  they  give  the  music  more  of  an  epic  and  atmospheric  sound.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  symphonic  and  classical  music  elements  and  some  of  the  slower  sections  display  influences  of  melodic  doom  metal  and  one track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Chiral  creates  a  very  diverse  recording  with  this  album  taking  the  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  post  styles  of  black  metal  and  mixing  it  in  with  elements  of  progressive  and  folk  music  to  create  a  very  original  sound,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  introspection,  nature,  solitude,  pain,  death  and  love  themes.

  In  my  opinion this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  the  atmospheric,  post  and  cascadian  styles  of  black  metal,  you  should  enjoy  this  recording.   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I,  Everblack  Fields"  and  "Beneath  the  Snow  And  Fllen  leaves".  8  out  of  10.

Nebel Uber Den Urnenfeldern/Chiral/Eternal Spell/Sed Auis/SixSisSix Music/2015 3 Way Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  3  way  split  album  between  Germany's  Nebel  Uber  Den  Urnenfeldern,  Italy's  Chiral  and  Chile's  Eternal  Spell  called  "Sed  Auis"  and  will  be  released  in  April  by  SixSixSix  Music  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Nebel  Uber  Den  Urnenfeldern  a  solo  project  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  firewood  burning  and  acoustic  guitars  which  also  return  later  on  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  some  tribal  beats  and  synths  a  few  seconds  alter  which  also  leads  up  to  a  more  heavier  black  metal  direction  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  melodic  guitar  leads  and  when  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  high  pitched  screams  that  also  have  a  depressive  tone  to  them  at  times.

  Both  of  his  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  mix  in  progressive  structures  in  with  a  more  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  sound  and  the  acoustic  guitars  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  parts  at  times  and  the  songs  also  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  paced  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  heavy  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  nature,  loneliness,  darkness  and  death.

  In  my  opinion  Nebel Uber Den Urnenfeldern  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Ein  Riss  im  ewigen  Krois".

  Next  up  is  Eternal  Spell  a  solo  project  from  Chile  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  speed  metal  and  punk.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  a  very  old  school  first  wave  influenced  black  metal  sound  where  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  his  side  of  the  recording  along  with  some  spoken  word  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  aggression.

  You  can  hear  a  lot  of  elements  of  punk  and  speed  metal  in  his  musical  style  and  the  songs  have  an  80's  feeling  to  do  them  but  done  in  a  more  modern  fashion  and  the  solos  and  leads  sound  like  they  where  recorded  35  years  ago  and  the  second  track  also  continues  the  same  tradition  while  you  can  hear  a  little  bit  of  the  second  wave  sound,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Evil,  Nature  and  Darkness.

  In  my  opinion  Eternal  Spell  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  speed  metal  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Forces  Oc  Occult".

  Closing  the  compilation  is  Chiral  a  solo  project  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  progressive  and  raw  style  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  a  very  style  of  black  metal  and  a  few  seconds  later  atmospheric  sounds  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  once  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  start  becoming  a  huge  part  of  the  songs  and  the  vocals  also  get  very  deep  at  times.

  You  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  throughout  both  of  his  songs  and  at  times  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  nature  sounds  can  be  heard  and  the  riffs  and  solos  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  second  track  is  very  long  and  epic in  length,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  introspection,  nature,  solitude,  pain  and  love.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  atmospheric  and  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Queste  Voci  Ch  Eclissano  La  Luce  I'.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  a  variety  of  many  different  black  metal  styles,  you  should  check  out  this  split.  8  out  of  10.

HaatE/Chiral/Where Mountains Pierce The Nightsky/2014 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  from  Italy's  HaatE  and  Chiral  called  "Where  Mountains  Pierce  The  Nightsky"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  HaatE  a  1  man  project  that  plays  black/dark  ambient.

  Nature  sounds  start  off  his  side  of  the  split  before  adding  in  ambient  style  synths  that  also  uses  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  which  also  takes  the  music  into  many  different  directions  and  after  awhile  you  can  hear  some  electric  guitars  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams.

  All  3  of  his  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  while  you  can  hear  some  black  metal  elements  in  the  music  the  main  focus  is  more  on  an  atmospheric  ambient  sound  that  also  gets  more  organic  sounding  as  the  album  progresses  and  the  music  starts  going  into  a  different  direction  on  the  last  track  and  also  brings  in  drones  while  the  main  focus  remains  on  an  ambient  sound.

  HaatE  continues  the  black  metal  influenced  dark  ambient  sound  that  was  presented  on  his  previous  full  length  as  well  as  adding  more  atmosphere  into  the  sound  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  powerful.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  HaatE  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Crystal".

  Next  up  is  Chiral  a  1  man  band  that  has  been  featured  recently  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal.

  Wind  sounds  and  synths  start  off  his  side  of  the  split  giving  his  music  and  atmospheric  and  dark  ambient  feeling  and  his  only  song  on  the  split  is  a  20  minute long  track  and  after  a  minute  guitars  are  added  into  the  music  and  the  song  starts  going  into  more  of  a  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  grim  screams.

  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  in  a  very  distorted  and  melodic  direction  and  the  atmospheric  parts  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sound  and  when  acoustic  guitars  are  added  into  the  song  they  take  the  music  into  more  of  a  progressive  direction  while  the  song  still  is  rooted  in  black  metal  for  the  most  part.

  Chiral  brings  in  a  lot  of  diversity  on  this  track  taking  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  mixing  iit  in  with  progressive  and  ambient  music  to  create  a  very  original  sounding  song,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  track.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  and  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  split.  8  out  of  10.

Chiral/Abisso/2014 EP Review

  Chiral  are  a  1  man  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  previously  featured  in  my  other  zine  "ADifferentShadeOfBlackMetalZine"  with  a  musical  sound  that  was  more  in  the   melodic  and  progressive  black/death  metal  direction  but  this  time  around  goes  for  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  sound  while  still  having  melodic  and  progressive  traits  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2014  ep  "Abisso".

  Wind,  thunder  and  rain  sounds  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  leads  to  some  heavy  and  slow  guitar  riffing  kicking  in  and  after  awhile  melodic  black  metal  guitar  leads  start  becoming  a  huge  part  of  the  recording  which  also  leads  up  to  some  deep  and  demonic  vocals.

  After  the  intro  the  music  really  starts  going  for  more  of  a  fast,  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  grim  sounding  high  pitched  screams  and  there  are  also  a  decent  amount  of  guitar  solos  and  leads  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  being  utilized  at  time s and  they  bring  a  more  progressive  feeling  to  the  recording  while  the  main  focus  remains  on  a  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction.

  When  the  ep  goes  into  other  songs  you  can  hear  some  keyboards  being  mixed  in  with  the  acoustic  parts  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  sound  very  powerful  and  and  the  epic  track  alos  utilizes  the  raw  black  metal  styling's  of  the  second  song  and  the  ep  closes  with  a  piano  outro  which  brings  a  dark  ambient  feeling  to  the  recording.  

  Chiral  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  diversity  on  this  ep  combing  fast,  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  with  the  more  progressive  leanings  of  the  first  recording  and  it  makes  the  music  sound  more  original  this  time  around,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  introspection,  solitude,  pain,  death  and  love.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chiral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive,  melodic  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Atto  II:  Abiso".  8/5  out  of  10.
