Malgöth Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

DG: A demonic mixture of hatred, pain and despair.

2.I n October you have a new album coming out, musically how does it differ from your previous ep?

SR: More aggressive and a longer listening experience, bludgeoning the senses.

ZS: The songs are a little more fleshed out and we focused harder on the raw power of the sound as opposed to writing "technical" music.

3. A couple of the band members are also in 'Chasmdweller', what is it that you bring into the music of 'Malgöth', that you are not able to do with your other group?

DG: The pace is a lot faster and it brings out a lot more of the demonic high vocals.

ZS: Chasmdweller is more of a meat and potatoes death metal band, Malgöth is more chaotic and takes influence from black metal, noise and other raw war metal bands.

4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

SR: Demons, Genocide, Blasphemy, and Gore

ZS: War, Torture and Death

5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Malgöth'?

ZS: The name came to me naturally. I'm not sure there is any meaning other than it being our band's name.

7. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

SR: Medieval torture art to go along w/ the themes of the songs, letting people know they're in for a brutal experience.

8. Musically what do you feel separates you from other bands playing war metal?

ZS: I think our sound is distinct, but of course we pay our respects to all other war metal bands that have come before us. It's a small sliver of a subgenre but there are a lot of powerful bands in there.

9. Would the band members be open to doing any live shows in the future?

SR: Yeah, maybe in the future.

ZS: I'm not a fan of playing live, but if the demand to see us was there I would definitely consider it.

10. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of war metal?

ZS: I've read a couple reviews and they've been positive.

DG: From what I've heard the reaction is mainly positive. If you are a fan of our specific flavour of extreme music, you are probably going to like it.

11. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

DG: The goal is to become even more brain shattering with each release.

ZS: I think we'll try and push the band to its limits. Who knows.

12. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

DG: My vocals on the project are heavily influenced by early Repulsion, Entombed, Fuck the Facts, Anal Cunt, Obituary, etc..

ZS: Our influences for this project are all over the place, but probably too hard to pin down. Currently listening to Genocide Shrines on vinyl.

13. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

DG: Big thanks to everyone who supports.

ZS: Thanks for the interview and be sure to get the new LP when it comes out on October 1st.

SR: Yeah, thanks for the support and don't sprain your spine headbanging to our shit

Malgöth/Glory Through Savegery/Iron Bonehead Productions/2021 CD Review

Malgöth  are  a  band  from  Toronto,  Ontario,  Canada  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Glory  Through  Savagery"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

Dark  soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  bestial  growls  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  war  metal  elements  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  touches  of  grindcore  at  times,  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  instruments  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.

On  this  recording  Malgöth  remains  true  to  the  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  that  they  had  established  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  torture  and  death  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malgöth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war,  bestial  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Throne  Of  Infinite  Power"  "Unrelenting  Force"  "Destroyed  By  Savages"  and  "The  Eternal  Age  Of  Iron".  8  out  of  10.

Malgöth/Primordial Dawn/Iron Bonehead Productions/2021 EP Review

Malgöth  are  a  band  from  Toronto, Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Primordial  Dawn"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

Apocalyptic  soundscapes  and  throat  singing  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture of  bestial  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  era  death  metal  elements.

A  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  fast  riffs.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts   along  with  the  vocals  also  having  their  guttural  moments  which  also  gives  the  music  more  fo  a modern  death  metal  brutality  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  leads  and  synths  are  also  added  on  the  closing  song.

Malgöth  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  violence  and  death  themes.

In  my  opinion  Malgöth  are  a  very  great  sounding  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Possessed  Sword  Of  A  Thousand  Deaths"  and  "The  Opposer".  8  out  of  10.
