Necroroots/Revelations Of The Unknown/2021 Full Length Review

Mexico's  Necroroots  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  old  school  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  self  released  2021  album  "Revelations  Of  The  Unknown".

A  very  dark  and  apocalyptic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

A couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length, as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  vocals  can  also be  heard  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Gorgoroth's  "Possessed  By  Satan".  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  pain  and  night  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Necroroots  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Claiming  The  Throne"  "Flued  Rage"  "Die  With  Me"  and  "World  Decay".  8  out  of  10.

When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  their  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism.  Luciferian,  Occultism,  Black  Magick  and  Sinhala  Buddhism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Luciferianometh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lord  Abandon's  War  Call"  and  "Ritual  Of  Death  &  Sacrifices  For  Aphosis".

Next  up  is  Necroroots  who  return  with  their  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  the  focus  are  mostyl  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences.

Necroroots Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

necroroots is a black metal band from Mexico and, more exactly, from a small city called techaluta, formed by two unique members, TERTARO and EIACOS. Together we make all the music and all the lyrics, the main objective of making this band was to express our feelings about the night, the pain and feelings of the human race, and most importantly, how society is falling.

2.In 2018 you had released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

This was the first time we made black metal, so we wanted the music to be heard in an old and raw way, so we recorded the songs in a very basic way, for the EP we recorded a total of ten songs, of which we chose 6 and taking two songs as background sounds. all the songs in the ep are made the most black metal as possible.

3.Your lyrics cover the mind liberation of religion, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

yes , in the song called "the chosen one" the lyrics talks about how the human race is a slave of all the religions in the world, religion controls all the capacity of the man, we make that the song to invite all persons to open their eyes to reality and follow their own way.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Necroroots?

well, tertaro was the master mind behind the name of necroroots, is a two words combination NECRO means dead and ROOTS means old because in necroroots we want to make old black metal like the early 90´, Fortunately is a new word and makes the band more original.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

the art work for the ep was made by me Eiacos , i try to put the essence of the band in the symbol behind the logo of necroroots, the pentagram means for us the revelation of knowledge about the true of life, and the three circles on the pentagram mean the three stages of the human life, born, grow and die, its basically the meaning of the entire ep art work.

6.Currently there is only 2 members in the band but the band had more members in the past, are you open to expanding the line up again or do you prefer to remain a duo?

there were more members in the past because we played in live shows, but they were only session musicians, necroroots has always been a band of two members (tertarus and eiacos), and so it will still be like that, it is easier to create music with only two members , we do not believe that there are more people with our ideology near us.

7.Has the band done any live shows or are open to doing any live shows?

at the beginning of necroroots we started playing live, but when we created the band three years ago the idea was only to make music and share through internet, there were invitations to play live which we took advantage of, but unfortunately the people in the area where we live they do not understand what black metal is, so we decided not to play live again, but we are still focused on continuing to create better music

8.The ep was released on 'Silentium In Foresta Records' but they facebook page said you where signed to Rural Records, do you feel both of these labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?

rural records recorded the songs for necroroots and Silentium In Foresta Records only distributed a number of copies, in the same way we are very grateful for the support they have offered towards the band, for the moment we still do not finish the album, but once finished necroroots will be looking for labels to distribute our music, we do not care about money, we just want our music to be known by the other people who are like us

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

fortunately we have had more luck in other countries than in ours, there are people here who do not know what black metal is, we have realized that there are people in other countries that like our music, that motivates us to make more black metal , we started only with the idea of making music just for us, but now we are making music for others.

10.I heard you are working on a full length, what can we expect musically once it is released?

We have put all our effort to make this album the best we have done, the songs have more passion, the lyrics are more honest than in the ep songs and the quality of the recording will be even better, we still need to detail some things, but we are sure that it will be even more black and aggressive than the ep songs, the songs have more pain and darkness.

the theme of the disc will talk about how the human being begins to die, from the suicide desires, until the moment he is among the dead suffering

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

we have a lot of bands that influenced us, a lot of old bands like burzum, mayhem, dissection and gorgoroth just for mention some ones, we don't try to copy they style we only take them some fundamentals about how to create a dark atmosphere , we olways trye to sound like necroroots.

some bands i hearing in this days are the new songs of gaahls wyrd, 1349 a lot , im waiting for the new album of darkthrone, but im still hearing a lot of old school black metal.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

thanks a lot to occult black metal zine for this interview, and thanks to all the people who supported us in this three years, the album is coming this year and it will be awesome.

cheers for all the metalheads in the world .

eiacos and tertaro.

A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  music.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly  but  are  over  powered  by  the  guitars.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  one  of  the  tracks  and  as  the  ep  progresses  a  small  amount  of  demonic  voices  are  also  added  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while   the  lyrics  cover  the  mind  liberation  of  religion.

In  my  opinion  Necroroots  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Chosen  One"  and  "Legions  Of  Death".  8  out  of  10.
