Viserion/Fire And Blood/2026 Full Length Review

New  York's  Viserion  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  fantasy  themed  form  of  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  self  released  album  "Fire  And  Blood"  which  will  be  released  in  2026.

A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in t he  old  school  era  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  more  of  a  90's  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  recording  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  the  closing  track.

On  this  recording  Viserion  expands  on  the  old  school  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  based  upon  George  R.R  Martin's  "Games  Of  Thrones"  novels.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Viserion  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire  And  Blood"  and  "Blackfyre".  8  out  of  10.

Teloch Vovin/Viserion/The Iron Age Of Kali Yuga/2023 Split Album Review

This  is  a  review  of  a split  album  between  New  York's  Teloch  Vovin  and  Viserion  called  "The  Iron  Age  of  Kali"  which  will  be  self  released  in  July  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Teloch  Vovin  who  return  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  sounding  intro  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also b e  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  bring  in  touches  of  ambient  and  classical  music  as  well  as  giving  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling. Melodies  are  also  adding  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  and  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Left  Hand  Path  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Teloch  Vovin  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dragon  Sworn"  and  "An  Eastern  Temple".

Next  up  is  Viserion  who  return  with  their  old  school  style  of  black  emtal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  elements  of  grindcore  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  closing  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  keyboards  also  add  in  a progressive  touch  when  they  are  added  in  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Viserion  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Fathers".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  occult  and  old  school  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Viserion Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

We just released the single, “The Wraith” Feat. Trevor Strnad, for our new album. We are also busy at work practicing all the tracks for the new album to prepare for live shows. John and Ben have also begun the process of writing some new riffs. All in all, we’re making sure we stay hard at work.

2.You have a new album coming out in August, musically how does it differ from your previous ep?

For this one we wanted to take our sound and expand on it. We decided to come out with an album of pure aggression while keeping our bleak and dismal tone. We also differ production wise on this record as it is an overall clearer listen then our EP.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored on both of the releases?

Our lyrics are heavily inspired by internal struggles we as human beings go through. Whether it be depression, pain or loss we find these emotions to be the strongest and a main part of life.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Viserion'?

Viserion is the name of the dragon in “Game of Thrones” who is killed and then becomes undead. This imagery and story resonated with us as through pain he was transformed.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

We had this idea to showcase the underlying brutality of the world. The animal kingdom is a perfect example of this. The lion carrying the wildebeest skull struck us as the perfect image to go along with our lyrics of hopelessness and pain.

6.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

We have not played live as of yet, but we are very open to the idea. We can’t wait to bring these songs to the stage

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We would be open to a label if the right one presents itself to us. There are a lot of great ones out there who we would be honored to join.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reaction has been great. Our fans are the best. They are extremely supportive of us and we couldn’t be more thankful for them. We hope to see them from the stage soon.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We want to continue to hone our sound and vision until you can hear a song and immediately know: That’s Viserion.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are of course influenced by the greats such as Mayhem, Darkthrone and Behemoth. More recently however we have been listening to and influence Akhlys, Ellende, Light Dweller and Deadspace.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Matt is a writer with an MFA in Creative Writing. Ben is big into gaming and has been playing a lot of Destiny 2 lately and John enjoys working on cars and spending time with his friends and family.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

First we would like to say thank you so much for having us. “Natural Selection” will be out August 13th, 2021 and pre-orders are live over at our Bandcamp page. Lastly, thank you to our fans for your continued support!

Viserion/Natural Selection/2021 Full Length Review

Viserion  are  a  band  from  New  York  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  album  "Natural  Selection"  which  will  be  released  in  August.

A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  is  also h eavily  rooted  in t he  90's  era  but  with  some  modern  touches.  Some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  death  metal  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  some  growls  also  being  utilized  on  a  few  songs.

Viserion  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  old  school,  and  traditional  sounding  as  well  as  adding  in  touches  of  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

In  my  opinion  Viserion  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black/death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Desolation"  "Natural  Selection"  and  "Malevolent".  8  out  of  10.
