Taake/Deathcult/Jaertegn/Edge Circle Productions/2020 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Norway's  Taake  and  Deathcult  called  "Jaertegn"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Edge  Circle  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Taake  who  return  with  their  old  school  style  of  Norwegian  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  while  the  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams along  with  the  tracks  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Nordic  style.

  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  clean  playing  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  they  close  their  side  of  the  split  with  a  cover  of  Darkthrone's  "Ravnajuv".  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Darkness  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Taake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Slagmark".

  Next  up  is  Deathcult  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  satanic  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Nordic  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  their  first  track  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  they  close  their  side  of  the  split  with  a  cover  of  Beherit's  "Black  Arts".  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Satanism  and  Misanthropy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Deathcult  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  Track  "Der  Wurger".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Norwegian  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Taake/Whoredom Rife/Pakt/Terratur Possessions/2020 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Norway's  Taake  and  Whoredom  Rife  called  "Pakt"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Terratur  Possessions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Takke  who  return  with  their  Norwegian  black  metal  style.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  dark  and  distorted  riffing  before  going  into a   heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  their  side  of  the  recording.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  sound  very  powerful  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Sisters  Of  Mercy's  "Heartland",  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  darkness,  death,  autumn,  winter,  pain  and  satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Taake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Ubeseiret".

  Next  up  is  Whoredom  Rife  another  band  that  plays  a  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  both  of  their  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  spoken  word  parts  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly. The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Norwegian  and  English  and  cover  Left  Hand  Path  and  Norse/Pagan  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Whoredom  Rife  are  a  very  great  sounding  Norwegian  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "From  Nameless  Pagan  Graves".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Norwegian  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Taake/Stridens Hus/Candlelight Records/2015 CD Review

  Taake  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  been  around  since  the  90's  and  also  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  continue  their  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  recordings  while  also  taking  their  music  into  different  areas  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Stridens  Hus"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Candlelight  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  melodic  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  old  school  riffing  that  can  be  very  raw  and  times  while  also  mixing  in  solos  and  leads  and  when  vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  are  grim  and  high  pitched  screams  while  also  adding  in  angry  and  hateful  shouts  at  times.

  Clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  bringing  in  small  amounts  of  blast  beats  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  element s of  punk  and  black'n'roll.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  viking  chanting  and  clean  singing  along  with  the  music  being  very  progressive  and  dark  at  times  while  some  of  the  later  songs  also  add  in  a  few  seconds  of  spoken  word  parts  while  the  music  never  loses  focus  on  a  raw  Norwegian  black  metal  sound.

  Taake  creates  another  grim  and  raw  Norwegian  style  black  metal  album  that  also  goes  into  different  directions  but  also  avoids  the  mainstream  trappings  a  lot  of  their  countrymen  have  been  falling  into  for  the  last  10  or  more  years,  the  productions  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  also  powerful  at  the  same  time  and  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  darkness.  death,  autumn,  winter,  hell,  pain  and  Satanism.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Taake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Orm"  "Stank"  and  "Vinger".  8  out  of  10.

Taake/Noregs Vaapen/Candlelight Records/2011 CD Review

  Taake are a band from Norway that has had their previous album reviewed in this zine, that started out as a more rare sounding Norwegian black metal band but have gotten very experimental with this recording and this is a review of their 2011 album "Noregs Vaapen" which was released by Candlelight Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with some classic metal style riffing, as for the banjos when they are utilized they bring a folk music feeling to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast Norwegian black metal riffs that are very dark and melodic sounding at times with some black rock style riffing being used as well, while the lead guitars are very weird sounding guitar solos and leads with a lot of epic sounding melodies being thrown in as well as some rock/classic metal influences.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched and grim sounding black metal screams with a small amount of clean singing viking metal vocals  being used briefly as well as a spoken word part being used on one song, while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover Norse Mythology, Darkness, Death, Autumn, Winter, Hell, Pain, and The Devil, as for the production it has a very dark, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it without taking away from the raw elements of the music.

In my opinion while this album might be a little different for fans of this band and it will probably take a few listens before it soaks in, I Still feel this is a great album from Taake and I think most of their fans will be happy. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fra Vadested Til Vaandesmad" "Nordbundet' and "Myr". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Taake/Self Titled/Century Media Records/Svartekunst Productions/2009 CD Review

Taake are a band from Norway that has a history that dates back to the 90's that plays a very primal form of viking/black metal and this is a review of their self titled album which was released by Century Media Records under collaboration with Svartekunst Productions during the year of 2009.

Drums are mostly mid paced to fast with a lot of brutal blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone which follows the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they bring out a very powerful sound.

Rhythm guitars are mostly mid paced to fast primal Norwegian style black metal riffs with some thrash and punk feelings to them at times along with some slower distorted riffing, while the lead guitars are very primal sounding black metal guitar solos.

  Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and seem to cover Norse/Asataru style themes, as for the production on this recording which was recorded at Innspilt i Conclave Studio in 2008 sounds very dark, raw, and heavy.

In my opinion this is another good release from Taake and this is a lot more rawer than most albums that come out on Century Media Records, if you are a fan of their previous albums you will not be disappointed  with this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Atternatt" "September omsider" and "Velg bort Livet". RECOMMENDED BUY.
