Ammanas/Somewhere Far Beyond/Witches Sabbath Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Russia's  Ammanas  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Somewhere  Far  Beyond"  which  was  released  by  Witches  Sabbath  Records.

  Clean  playing  and  atmospheric  sounding  splits  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  old  school  and  modern  influences,  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.    

  On  this  recording  Ammanas  goes  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  post  black  metal  which  is  very  different  from  their  previous  releases.   The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Ammanas  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  melodic  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "As  Above"  "The  Fall"  and  "The  Relentless  God".  8  out  of  10.

Ammanas/Solitude/Has Weg/Abyssal Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Ammanas  are  a  band  from  Russia  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  aggressive  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Solitude"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Has  Weg  and  Abyssal  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  synths  onto  the  recording,  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Ammanas  takes  their  musical  style  into  more  of  a  fast,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  black  metal  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  sacral  experience  of  Bardo  visions  and  the  process  of  transition from  life  to  death.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ammanas  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  aggressive  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Icy  Radiance  Of  Death"  "Fearlessness"  "Emptiness"  and "Hopelessness".  8  out  of  10.

Ammanas/Acolythus/Legions Ov Darkness/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Ammanas  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  very  mid  tempo  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Acolythus"  which  was  released  by  Legions  Ov  Darkness.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  while  the  music  speeds  up  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.

  At  times  the  vocals  also  get  very  high  pitched  sounding  while  some  of  the  tracks  also  added  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  music  also  staying  away  from  the  use  of  guitar  solos  and  leads  to  focus  more  on  a  riff  orientated  direction  as  well  as  some  keyboards  also  being  added  on  the  closing  song.

  Ammanas  plays  a  style  of    black  metal  that  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  death  themes  while  focusing  more  on  the  English  language  but  also  bringing  the  German  and  Russian  languages  on  a  couple  of  tracks.  

  In  my  opinion  Ammanas  are  a  very  great  sounding  mid  tempo  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hastar"  "Furcht"  and  "Hiraeth".  8  out  of  10.
