Worm/Necropalace/Century Media Records/2026 Full Length Review

 

  U.S.A's  Worm  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  nekromantic  form  of  blackened  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Necropalace"  which  will b e  released  on  February  13th  by  Century  Media  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  symphonic sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Elements  of  funeral  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  a  couple  of   songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  lot  of  the  music  brings  back  the  symphonic  style  of  the  mid  90's  era,  clear  singing  and  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  and  the  closing  song  also  adds  in  some  session  work  from  Marty  Friedman.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Necromancy,  Darkness  and  Death  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Worm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Necropalace"  and  "Blackheart".  8  out  of  10.

Dream Unending/Worm/Starpath/20 Buck SPin/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.SA/Canada's  Dream  Unending  and  Worm  called  "Starpath"  which  was  released  in  2023  by  20  Buck  Spin  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Dream  Unending  a  band  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  doom  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  slow  doom  metal  riffing  and  death  metal  growls  while   clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  The  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  both  of  their  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

 When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  clean  vocals  also  being  utilized  briefly  as  well  as  all  of  their  music  also  sticking  to  a  slower  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  introspection,  pain,  fear,  dreams,  and  grief  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Dream  Unending  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "So  Many  Chances".

  Next  up  is  Worm  who  returns  with  more  of  a  symphonic  and  vampyric  style  of  black  metal  with  touches  of  funeral  doom/death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy,  atmospheric  and  melodic  sound  while  the synths  also  add  in  some  atmospheric  touches.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  and  all  of  their  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  clear  chants/singing,  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  briefly   and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times,  death  metal  growls  and  funeral  doom  metal  elements  are  also  mixed  in  with  their  new  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Worm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  vampiric,  symphonic  black  metal  and  funeral  doom/death,  you  should  check  out  this  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Midwinter  Tears".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  and  atmospheric  doom/death  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Worm/Bluenothing/20 Buck Spin/2022 EP Review

 

  Florida's  Worm  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a   blackened  funeral  doom/death  metal  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Bluenothing"  which  will b e  released  in  October  by  20  Buck  Spin.

  Ritualistic  bells  and  water  sounds  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  funeral  doom  metal  direction.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  emtal  growls  while  the  atmospheric  side  of  the  music  shows  an  influence  of  Disembowelment.  Synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard. 

  Whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  clear  vocals  also  being  utilized  on  one  of  the  songs  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  on  the  closing  track  they  alos  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feleing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Worm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bluenothing"  and  "Shadowside  Kingdom".  8  out  of  10.

Worm/Foreverglade/20 Buck Spin/2021 CD Review

 

  Florida's  Worm  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  moving  even  more  further  away  from  the  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  expanding  on  the  funeral  doom  metal  style  they  introduced  on  the  last  album  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Foreverglade"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  20  Buck  Spin.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Synths  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  and  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.

  Elements  of  funeral  doom  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark,  melodic  yet  old  school  style  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in a  brief  use  of  tortured  yet  clear  vocals  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  necromancy  themes.

  Florida's  Worm  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  occult  black  and    funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Gloomlord"  which  will  be  released  in  2020  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  slower  and  heavier  funeral  doom  metal  direction.  Deep  death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  music  also  mixes  the  atmospheric  and  heavy  parts  together  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  grim  black  metal  screams.

  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  but  also  keeping  it  modern  at  the  same  time.  Synths  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Worm  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  occult  black  and  funeral  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rotting  Spheres  Of  Sentient  Black"  and  "Abysmal  Dimensions".  8 out  of  10.

Worm/Nights In Hell/2016 Cassette Review

  Worm  are  a  duo  from  Florida  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  satanic/occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  demo  "Nights  In  Hell".

  A  very  dark and   lo-fi  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  some  drums  and  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams  and  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  more  of  a  melodic  style  that  is  more  on  the  primitive  side  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great amount  of  90's  second  wave  influences  in  the  guitar  riffing.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  you  can  also  hear  some  melodies  in  the  guitar  riffing  at  times and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  atmospheric  synths  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  melodic  singing  while  the  whole  album  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  diversity.

  At  times  the  music  sounds  very  ritualistic  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  on  later  tracks  the  synths  start  getting  more  diverse  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  it  also  brings  in a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  a  couple  of  later  songs  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  along  with  an  instrumental  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  vocals  start  bringing  in  more  depressive  elements.

  Worm  creates  a  black  metal  album  that  is  very  atmospheric  and  raw  while  also  being  very  experimental  and  ritualistic  at  the  same  time  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  lot  more  originality,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Worm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  atmospheric  and  ritualistic  satanic/occult black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dark  Prophecy  Awaits"  "Hell  Knight"  "Holy  Forsaker"  and  "The  Haunting  Beneath  the  Firs".  8/5 out  of  10.

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Two young bete noires outlawed from the society of earth, shut out from the smile of a loving god. Only grim nature and it's world of spirits.

2.Recently you have released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
A return to true darkness, a hated style, rough, raw, violent, predatory, and black.

3.Your lyrics cover some Satanic, Occult and Pagan topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in those topics?
The true satanist in essence comes through the channel which is separated from what is human. The occult is a reminder our journey is vast. The nocturnal paganism keeps us isolated from modern technologies and keeps us close to the spirits.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Worm'?
The word for dragon in Germanic mythology and it's descendants is worm. Like a dreadful dragon in the dark ages wasting the land.

5.On the website it said that you hid 3  copies  in  the  midst  of  Pinewood  Cemetery  Gates,  can you tell us a little bit more about this idea and what was the decision behind this act?
This forgotten sanctuary is easily an extension of both our lives. It began as a place where we escaped the meaningless banter of our daily lives and could be at peace. We soon were able to use it as inspiration for our music. So it's only natural we pay reverence to those local pioneers who have rested below the pines as ever early as the 18th century.

6.According to the website there are only 50 copies being made of the album, are there any plans to make more pressings in the future?
No, that is it for this one. We are moving on.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the art lyric zine that comes with the album?
It's the primitive way of communication in the early days of black metal. We use it as an extension to our songs. It contains hand drawn artwork and the lyrics to our music.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
We don't look for anyone but ourselves.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal that have heard it so far?
We don't care about the world.

10.Are you also involved with any other musical projects these days?
We only focus on Worm.

11.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician in the future?
Our music being an anathema to all human beings.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Same bullshit first and second wave influenced the first release. And now we are listening to obscure tapes from bands that dropped one or two demos then faded into obscurity.

  Worm  are  a  band  from  Florida  that  plays  a  very  dark,  raw,  atmospheric  and  grim  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  demo  "The  Deep  Dark  Earth  Underlies  All".

  A  very  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  the  leads  bringing  in  more  of  that  style  and  they  are  also  a  huge  part  of  most  of  the  tracks  along  with  small  amounts  of  clean  playing  which  leads  up  to  the  music  getting  more  heavier  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  some  atmospheric  sounds  in  the  background  at  times  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

    All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  good  mixture  of  both  acoustic  and  heavy  parts  and  at  times  the  music  can  also  be  very  ritualistic  and  experimental  sounding  along  with  some  psychedelic  elements  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  some  of  the  later  tracks  bring  in  a  little  bit  of  the  fast  and  raw  style  of  black  metal  which  also  sees  blast  beats  being  added  onto  the  recording..

     On  some  of  the  other  tracks  the  band  brings  in  a  raw  sound  a  raw  sound  but  use  a  slower  yet  heavy  style  of  guitar  riffing  which  they  mix  in  with  the  more  atmospheric  approach  of  the  beginning  songs  and  the  album  gets  more  diverse  with  each  track  and  one  of  the  songs  is  an  ambient  instrumental  along  with  other  tunes  bringing  in  deep  demonic  growls  and  a  few  seconds  of  clean  singing  while  the  other  songs  go  back  to  the  more  grim  yet  experimental  style  along  with  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  one  song  is  a  short  funeral  song  done  with  organs.

  Worm  creates  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  dark,  and  grim  while  still  being  very  atmospheric  and  melodic  as  well  as  the  group  also  being  very  original  by  bringing in  songs  that  bring  in  more  of  an  experimental,  ambient  and  ritualistic  atmosphere  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness,  Occultism,  Paganism,  Satanism  and  Anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Worm  are  a  very  great  sounding  dark,  raw,  grim,  atmospheric  mixture  of  occult  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Illumination"  "Legends  From  the  Essence  Of  Hell"  "More  Cruel  Than  Any  Midnight"  and  "The  Deep  Dark  Earth  underlies  All".  8/5  out  of  10.
