  U.S.A's  solo  project  Glyph  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw,  atmospheric  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Odes  of  Wailing,  Hymns  Of  Mourning"  which  will  be  released  in  June  as  a  joint  effort  between  Fiadh  Productions,  Shape  Of  Storm  and  Weregnome  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments. Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  part  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  as  well  as  adding  in  some  dissonant  touches  at  times,  synths  and  clean  playing  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Glyph  takes  his  raw  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  dissonant  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  pain  and  triumph  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Glyph  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  depressive,  dissonant  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Man  Has  Succumbed  To  Madness"  "The  Unfortunate  Man  In  Question"  and  "Between  Ghosts  And  Gloom".  8  out  of  10.

  U.S.A's  solo  project  Glyph  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "The  Time  Of  Perit"  which  will  be  released  in  2023  as  a  joint  effort  between  WereGnome  Records  and  Fiadh.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  yet  depressive  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the   music  also  mixes  in  touches  of  both  the  old  school  and  modern  era  of  the  genre,.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  can  also b e  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo  fi  atmosphere  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  and melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  synths  and  atmospheric  elements  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track

  On  this  recording  Glyph  mixes  in  more  old  school  elements  in  his  raw  and  depressive  approach  to  black  metal  to  create  something  very  different  from  previous  releases  without  losing  any  aggression.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Glyph  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of raw,  depressive  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Of  The  Balance"  "Call  Forth  Fury"  "When  We  Looked  At  Their  Ruins"  and  "On  The  Last  Dat".  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  yet  depressive  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  at  times  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  getting  more  diverse  as  the  recording  progresses,  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  towards  the  end.

  On  this  recording  Glyph  remains  true  to  the  raw,  lo-fi  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Glyph  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Under  The  Above  World"  "Who  Lies  Dormant"  and  "Relics  Of  The  Precursors".  8  out  of  10.

Glyph/Unbinding Sacred Writings/2021 Demo Review

 

  Glyph  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  States  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  old  school  and  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  demo  "Unbinding  Sacred  Writings".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  demo  while  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  A  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  some  90's  influences.

  On  this  recording  Glyph  expands  on  his  raw  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  by  adding  in  some  90's  era  second  wave  influences  to  take  his  sound  to  another  level.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Glyph  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  depressive  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Codex"  and  "Admonition".  8  out  of  10.

Glyph/We Are None Of Us/Ritual Abuse Hysteria/2021 EP Review

 

  Glyph  are  a  band  from  the  United  States  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "We  Are  None  of  Us"  which  will b e  released  on  June  4th  by  Ritual  Abuse  Hysteria.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  vocals  also  have  their  depressive  moments.  At  times  the  music  also  shows  an  influence  of  the  early  2000's  USBM  style  along  with  the  whole  recording  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  musical  direction.

  Glyph  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  raw,  lo-fi  and  depressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  doom  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Glyph  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  depressive  and  lo-fi  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Of  The  Clock  Tower"  and  "The  Folly  Of  Vanity  And  The  Doom  Of  Folly".  8  out  of  10.
