Svadilfare/Krig I Kunst/Naturmacht Productions/2015 CD Review

  Svadilfare  are  a  1  man  band  from  Norway  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015  album  "Krig  I  Kunst"  which  will  be  released  on  March  22nd  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  A  very  dark and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  angry  shouts  a  few  seconds  later  which  evolve  into  grim,  depressive  and  high  pitched  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  chants  being  utilized  in  the  background  at  times  and  the music  does  speed  up  at  times  and  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  at  times  along  with  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  while  some  tracks  also  bring  in  clean  singing  viking  vocals  that  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  an  epic  and  pagan  feeling.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  remain  true  to  a  melodic  musical  direction  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  at  times  bring  back  the  feeling  of  90's  Norwegian  Viking  and  Pagan/black  metal  and  also  bring  back  some  of  the  epic  structures  those  bands  had  as  well  and  there  are  also  a  couple  of  tracks  that  are  very  long  and epic  in  length  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Svadilfare  creates  another  album  that  continues  the  pagan  and  atmospheric  black  metal  sound  of  his  previous  recordings  while  still  having  a  perfect  balance  between  heaviness,   darkness  and  rawness  as  well  as  having  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  epic  structures,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  are  written  mostly  in  Norwegian  along  with  a  couple  in  English  and  cover  Norse  Mythology,  Anti  Christianity  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Svadilfare  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  or  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Evig  Motstand  I  Eit  Dyrenrike"  "All  Religion  Must  Die"  "Liket  I  Svartediket"  and  "Despair,  Depression  and  Contempt".  8  out  of  10.

Svadilfare/Makt Til Usklyd/Naturmacht Productions/2013 CD Review

  Svadilfare  are  a  1  man  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  pagan/black  metal  and this  is  a  review  of  his  2013  album  "Makt  Til  Usklyd" which  was  released  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  "Flertall  I Binde"  begins  with  some  soft  acoustic  guitars  which  utilize  finger  picking  along  with  some  background  synths  and  after  a  few  seconds  melodic  chants  become  a  part  of  the  song  briefly  before going  into  some  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams,  primitive  guitar  and  bass  riffs  along  with  some  drums  and  after  awhile  the  guitar  riffing  starts  utilizing  some dark  sounding  melodies and  the  song  is  in  a  mid  paced  direction.

  "Makt Til  Usklyd"  begins  with  some  clean  but  distorted  guitar  riffs  before  adding  in  some  drums,  heavier  guitar  riffs  along  with  some  grim  depressive  screams  and  a  minute  later  there  is  a  brief  us e of  melodic  clean  singing  vocals  along  with  some  powerful  bass  playing  which  leads up  to  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  being  utilized  for  awhile  and  towards  the  end  there  is  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  being  utilized.  

  'Tordenskrall"  begins  with  some  high  pitched  screams,  mid  paced,  primitive  guitar  and  bass  riffs  along  with  some  drums  which  do  speed  up  at  times  and  then  th e melodic  pagan  vocals  start  coming  in  for  a  few  seconds  and  towards  the  end  the  riffing  and  drums  going  into  a  more  fast  and  primitive  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats.

  "Fem  Feite  Faar"  begins  with  some  grim,  depressive  black  metal  vocals,  slow  primitive  guitar  and  bass  riffs  along  with  some  drums  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  vocals  get  demonic  for  a  few  seconds.

  'Naiv"  begins  with  some  fast  and  primitive  black  metal  guitar  riffs,  blast  beats  and  tortured  yet  grim  screams  which  also  leads  to  the  guitar  riffing  adding  some  melody  to  the  more  raw  elements  and  then t he  song  slows  down  for  awhile  before  adding  in  some  thrash  influences  which  leads  to  the  music  going  back  to  its  faster  roots  before  adding  in  some  melodic  vocals  an d towards  the  end  the  music  goes  for  a  more  slow  and  melodic  direction.

  "Svik"  begins  with  some  screams,  melodic  guitar  riffs  and  drums  and  after  a  few  seconds  melodic  vocals  make  their  way  into  the  song  and   towards  the  end  there  is  a  brief  use  of  guitar  leads  being  added  in  before  the  guitars  stop  and  the  song  goes  more  into  pagan  chanting.

  "Fossefall" begins  with  some  clean  guitar  playing  and  drums  and  after  a  few  seconds  bass  guitars  start  kicking  in  before  going  into  a  more  heavy  and  melodic  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  some  primitive  fast  guitar  riffs  and  blast  beats  for  a  few  seconds  before  returning  to  the  cleaner  sections  and  adding  in  some  guitar  leads  and  then  the  music  starts  getting  heavy  again  but  also  keeping  around  the  guitar  leads  and  there  are  no  vocals  present  with  the  song  being  all  instrumental.

  "Blodtarter"  begins  with  some  fast,  heavy  and  primitive  guitar  riffs,  drums  and  high  pitched  screams  before  slowing  and  going  into  a  grimmer  direction  and  after  a  minute  acoustic  guitars  and  melodic  vocals  make  their  way  into  the  song  which  leads  to   the music  going  back  to  its  heavy  and  primitive  roots  along  with  some  of  the  faster  elements.

  Song  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Norse  Mythology  and  Anti  Christian  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  In  my  opinion  Svadilfare  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  pagan/black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Flertall  I Binde"  "Fem  Feite  Faar"  and  "Blodtarter>  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
