Fardeaux Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Fardeaux is a Black Metal project led by P. on vocals, guitars and bass. He composes everything by himself and then sends all the material to M. behind the drums who adapts it as he pleases. The idea of guests is very appealing. There have been and there will often be more.

The Black Metal that is proposed is intended to be somewhat eccentric, irregular, while keeping a very fine guideline. Slowly try to break the codes, to destabilize.

2.Towards the end of April you have your first full length coming out, musically how does it differ from your previous singles?

For the moment it doesn't differ at all because our first 3 singles are to be considered as the introduction of 3 songs from the album. It's up to the listener to make the connections. The remaining 4 tracks should have a sequel. Musically we always try to have coherence between a maximum of riffs. Every song has to lose you and then refocus you. You have to feel captured without really being so, so that a second listening is immediately necessary.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Solitude, the process of death, transcendence, shamanism, the afterlife.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Fardeaux'?

"Les Fardeaux" are what keep you from ascending spiritually. These are the entities that you meet in the afterlife and interact with and are usually just your own reflection. They take you away from the light and guide you to the abyss. It is a journey of wonders and horrors, a disproportionate, horrifying and harrowing past that stands up and that we face in order to fully emancipate ourselves from the terrestrial world.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

We made this artwork with the help of a friend. The flame is what constitutes us, an element of our past, a memory, an emotion, a part of our ego that we try to break, a fear that we try to face. Each piece of the album relates this fight that we lead to better rise but in vain...

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

We will remain a duo. We will never play live so no interest in recruiting

7.You have also mentioned that you prefer to keep a lower profile, do you feel it is more important to let the music speak for itself?

Absolutely, we only let ourselves be seen through our music. No physical image is necessary because we don't want to give ourselves any kind of importance.

8.The new album is going to come out on 'Drowning In Chaos Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

It's a brand new French label based in the north of France and created by friends. A great team of enthusiasts. They were looking for a first collaboration so we offered them our album which they really liked.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

With our first three singles there were some good reactions at home in France but also in particular in Latin America and people gave us excellent feedback with a few reviews.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We would like to surprise without fundamentally changing our style and simply continue to offer our music without too much ambition. We are unable to really project ourselves. Only resides the will to fully live the present moment so we are going to concentrate fully on this first album and we will see where it will take us...

11.Whatare some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are influenced by bands like Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Gorguts, Morbid Angel, Emperor, Abigor, Dodheimsgard, Portal and many other bands who also know how to propose a subtle evolution to their music or know how to downright transcend it so as never to remain fixed on a period or a style. Today we are more on the lookout for this kind of bands whether they were metallic sounds or not.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you very much for your review about our album and for this interview. We hope that this project will appeal to you.

Fardeaux  are  a  duo  from  France  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this    plays  a  very  avant  garde  and  dissonant  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "The  Den  has  Become  An  Abyss"  which  will b e  released  on  April  28yh  by  Drowning  in  Chaos  Records.

A  very  dark,  heavy  and  dissonant  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  music  also  has  its  avant  garde  moments.

During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can be  heard  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Angry  shots  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  synths  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album,  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  French  and  cover  darkness  and  misery  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recordintg  from  Fardeaux  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  and  dissonant  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Siéger  Sur  Le  Trône  De  La  Honte  Et  Du  Mépris"  " Le  Rituel  Du  Double"  and  "Aube  Dernière".  8  out  of  10.

Fardeaux  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  modern  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  single  "Silver  Crack".

Wind  sounds  start  off  the  track  along  with  some  atmospheric  soundscapes  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  song  is  over  11  minutes  in  length  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  more  modern  style.

Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  also  shows  some  influences  of  the  post  black  metal  style.   During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  track  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  direction.,  towards  the  end  a  brief  use  of  chants  can  also be   heard.

Fardeaux  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t ha t is  very  modern  and  aggressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.
