Aegrus/Invoking The Abysmal Night/Osmose Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Aegrus  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  satanic  and  occult  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Invoking  The  Abysmal  Night"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  classic  Finnish  style.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  whispers  and  clear  vocals  care  also  utilized.

  On  this  recording  Aegrus  remains  true  to  the  satanic  and  occult  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satan,  Lucifer  and  Death.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Aegrus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  and  occult  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Invoking  The  Abysmal  Night"  "Temple  Of  Ardent  Worship"  and  "Where  The  Forest  Emanates  Death".  8  out  of  10.

Aegrus/The Carnal Temples/Osmose Productions/2022 EP Review

 

  Finland's  Aegrus  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  occult  and  satanic  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  ep  "The  Carnal  Temples"  which  will  be  released  in  2022  by  Osmose  Productions. 

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs   also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Growls  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of t he  recording  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  style  of  the  genre,  one  of  the  tracks  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  recording.

  On  this  releases  Aegrus  remains  true  to  the  satanic  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  that  has  been  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  devil  worship  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Aegrus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INLUDE  "In  Death  Rapture"  and  "Flesh  And  Blood".  8  out  of  10.

  Finland's  Aegrus  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  satanic  and  occult  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Wolves  Howl  Revenge"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  small  amount  of  deep  growls.

  A  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  some  melodies  at  times  along  with  the  second  track  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  fast  and  mid  tempo  parts  and  both  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  very  heavy  and  dark  musical  direction,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very powerful  sound  to  them.

  on  this  recording  Aegrus  remains  true  to  the  satanic  and  occult  black  metal  style  that  was  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Occultism,  Darkness,  Self  Development  and  Transcendental  Knowledge  themes.

  Aegrus  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "In  Manus  Satanas"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Saturnal.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  can  be  heard  briefly.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  onto  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Aegrus  remains  true  to  the  satanic  black  metal  style  that  was  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Self  Knowledge,  Occultism  and  Transcendental  Knowledge  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Aegrus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nightspirit  Theosis""Ascending  Shadows"  and  "In  Manus  Satanas".  8  out  of  10.

Aegrus/Thy Numinous Darkness/Saturnal Records/2017 Full Length Review

  Aegrus  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Thy  Numinous  Darkness'  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Saturnal  Records.

  Heavy  guitar  riffs  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo picking  and  blast  beats  to  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  a  great  potion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  melodic  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  the  album  progresses  and    later  tracks  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing    along  with  the  vocals  also  utilizing  a  more  depressive  edge  and  the  last  track  is  all  instrumental.


  Aegrus  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  traditional  while  also  having  a  modern  edge, the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism.  Luciferian,  Occultism  and  Transcendental Knowledge  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Aegrus  are  a  very  great  sounding  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Call  Of  Lucifer"  "Psalms  Of  Satan"  and  "The  Black  Stream  Of  Death".  8  out  of  10.
