Witchbones/Akasha III: Sea, Blood And Fire/Death Prayer Records/2019 Demo Compilation Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Portland,  Oregon's  solo  project  Witchbones  which  continues  the  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  from  previous  releases  and  the  compilation  was  released  in  2019  by  Death  prayer  Records  and  called  "Akasha  III:  Sea,  Blood  And  Fire"  which  was  released  by  Death  Prayer  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  apocalyptic  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  brutal  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  bestial  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  Elements  of  doom/death  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  era  influences.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  one  song  also  going  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  occultism  and  Witchery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  collection  from  Witchbones  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Apocalyptic  Dragon  Wings"  and  "Desires  Of  my  Blood".  8  out  of  10.

    Witchbones  are  a  solo  project  from  Portland,  Oregon  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  demo  compilation  album  "Akasha  II:  The  Lost  Demos"  which  was  released  by  Death  Prayer  Records.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  compilation  along  with  a  brief  use  of  dark  sounding  synths  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Vocals a re  mostyl  bestial  yet  cavernous  sounding  growls  while t he  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  show  an  influence  of  90's  era  doom/death  metal  and  when t he  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  blast b eats  can  be  heard.

  War  metal  elements  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  whispered  vocals  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  compilation  Witchbones  showed  the  early  beginnings  of  his  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.    The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Witchery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Witchbones  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Keeper  of  The  Keys"  "Goddess  Of  Black  Magick"  and  "Blood  Sea  Waves".  8  out  of  10.

  Witchbones  are  a  solo  project  from  Portland,  Oregon  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Goety"  which  was  released  by  Morbid  Chapel  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  small  amount  of  atmospheric  elements.  Bestial  growls  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  along  with  some  elements  of  doom/death  metal  being  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  war  metal  influences,  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  guitar  leads  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

  Evil  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  horror  orientated  synths  and  whispered  vocals  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  a  couple  of  later  songs  being  instrumentals  and  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  album.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Witchery,  Occultism  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Witchbones  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war,  bestial  black,  death  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Queen  Of  The  Crossroads"  "Goddess  Of  Black  Magick"  and  "When  Blood  Runs  Black".  8  out  of  10.

  Witchbones  are  a  solo  project  from  Portland,  Oregon  that  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review of  his  2019 album  "The  Seas  of  Draugen"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  horror  movie  orientated  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  also  capturing  a  ritualistic  atmosphere  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Bestial  and  cavernous  sounding  growls  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  at  times.

  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  war  metal  elements  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.

  The  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  synths  and  ritualistic  bells  can  be  heard  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  witchery,  occultism  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Witchbones  are  a  very  great  sounding  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'The  Nun  Collector"  "The  Ritual  Continues  (We  Haunt  Ourselves)"  and  "The  Candle  Burns  Alone  (Dead  Sailors)".  8  out  of  10.
