  Selvnatt  are  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  lo-fi,  vampyric  and  romantic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  ep  "Empty  Life"  which  was  released  by  Artchestra.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well as  the  recording  also  capturing  a  lo-fi  atmosphere  and  clean  playing  is  also  used on  a  few  tracks.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  90's  era  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  recording  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  keyboards,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  one  song  also  adds  in  spoken  word  samples.

  Selvnatt  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  lo-fi,  atmospheric,  vampyric  and  romantic  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  solitude,  love  and  death.

Buxen Interview

 

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Buxen was created in 2002 from the ashes of Triumphator. It is not a band in the traditional sense— no rehearsals, no live shows, no fixed line-up. Just two members, myself and Hurne, meeting rarely and recording only when the time demands it. Buxen manifests, then disappears.

2. Recently you have released your first full length, musically how does it differ from yourprevious split and ep?

The full-length is simply a continuation of the same spirit, but more coherent and more cruel in its vision. The old recordings were fragments. The album is the full apparition of what Buxen truly is —raw violence, graveyard atmosphere, silence and destruction intertwined.

3. From 2007 to 2022 there was no music being released, can you tell us a little bit more about what was going on during that time frame?

Nothing. That’s the point. We do not plan, we do not “work” like a normal band. There was nothing to be said in those years, so silence was the most honest form of existence.

4. A lot of your lyrics cover Occult themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

There is no fascination with occultism as a fashion or as a doctrine. The lyrics are personal emanations, reflections of experience. Symbols, rituals, esoteric echoes appear because they exist inside us, not because we follow a system. We do not try to teach or preach.

5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Buxen'?

The Buxen were a real secret society in Germany and Belgium during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries — known as the Goat Riders. They gathered at night, wore horned masks, rode through the countryside leaving chaos behind, The name carries both history and ruin.

6. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The full-length is entitled “…dilexerunt homines magis tenebras quam lucem…” — a passage from the Gospel of John (3:19), meaning “men loved darkness rather than light.” The cover reflects this verse directly: a stark, medieval-style woodcut of the crucifixion, stripped of any comfort or glory. There is no triumph, only suffering and abandonment. The artwork mirrors the essence of Buxen: the rejection of false light, the embrace of darkness, the silence of decay.

7. Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

No. And no plans to. Buxen does not belong to stages, lights or audiences. It belongs to silence, to the graveyard, to the rare moment in the studio when destruction is captured.

8. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reactions are irrelevant. Some understand fragments, others do not. It doesn’t matter. We do not create for applause or recognition.

9. Are any of the other band members currently involved with any other musical projects or bands?

I have been active in other projects in the past — Triumphator, Manth, Vermiis, Mephisto — but Buxen remains separate. Hurne is not involved in anything else as far as I know.

10. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Nowhere. There is no plan, no direction. If another manifestation comes, it will come. If not, silence remains. Both outcomes are valid.

11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

In the past we listened to too much Mayhem, Darkthrone and others, and that was a mistake. Today there is no conscious influence. I listen to whatever I feel, old thrash, death, black, or even outside metal. Nothing dictates what Buxen must sound like.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Buxen is not here to convince or to convert. It exists when it must, and disappears when it must. Seek nothing in us, and you may understand everything.

  Draugveil  are  a  solo  project  from  Czechia  that  plays  a  romantic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Cruel  World  Of  Dreams  And  Fears"  which  will  be  released  by  Artchestra.

  A  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams. When  the  recording  speeds  up  a  great  amount   of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and w hen  gutiar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are d one  in  a  very  melodic  style  .

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  synths  and  pianos  also  add  in  elements  of  dungeon  synth  when  they  are  utilized.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  90's  era  along  with  the  recording  also  having  its  lo-fi  moments.

   A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  which  also  captures  a  medieval  atmosphere  at  times  as  well  as  a  few songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  The  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  solitude,  depression,  love  and  death  themes.

Destruction Ritual/Providence/EAL Productions/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Destruction  Ritual  are  an  international  band  with  embers  from  France  and  the  united  States  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Providence"  which  will  be  released  on  September  12th  by  EAL  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast   beats.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  death  metal  elements.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words.

  Destruction  Ritual  plays  a  very  fast  and  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  to  2000's  era  as  well  as  adding  in  elements  of  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  violent  and  psychotic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Destruction  Ritual  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Providence"  and  "Wasted  Away  Sins".  8  out  of  10.

  Flesia  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Achterbahnekstase"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween  by  Cultkill  Music.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the music.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  slower  sections  of  the  album  also  adding  in  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  along  the  bass  guitar  taking  over  as  a  lead  instrument  and  there  is  no  regular  guitar  present  on  any  of  the  tracks  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Flesia  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  sludge  and  doom  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Flesia  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Im  Kreis  Nach  unten".  8  out  of  10.

  Pest  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  misanthropic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Eternal  Nightmares"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Heidens  Hart.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  yet  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  of  the  genre.

  Some  of  the  guitar  riffing  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Some  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  when  they  are  finally  utilized  and  a  later  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  spoken  words,  the  album  also  closes  with  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Pest  goes  for  a  very  fast,  aggressive,  raw  and  misanthropic  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Nihilism,  Misanthropy,  Death  and  Plague  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  pest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  misanthropic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eternal  Nightmare"  "Winds  Of  Death"  and  "The  Gates".  8  out  of  10.

  In  my  opinion  Victumarum  are  a  very  great  sounding  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hovissa  yön  ruhtinaan"  "Kuolemalle"  and  "Ilmestysten  Kuningas".  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

Pagan Ulver Interview

 

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

1. Since the release of our debut album Obsidian Flame of Thy Offering, we’ve been focusing on promoting it through live shows and spreading our music to new audiences. And this month (September 20th) we’re honored to open for Katatonia and Gorod — another step that gives us the chance to bring Moroccan black metal to a wider stage

2.Recently you have released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

2. Musically, this album represents our blend of symphonic and melodic black metal. We wanted to create something grand, theatrical, and emotional while keeping the raw spirit 

of black metal intact. The orchestration plays a key role in building the atmosphere. We also went flirting with many elements from various genres such as progressive, post-black metal, and even using acoustics and classical music.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

3. Our lyrics dive into themes of fantasy, tragedy, misanthropy, and self-destruction, with Obsidian Flame of Thy Offering in particular telling the story of a historical vampire. We 

explore both historical and personal darkness through a dramatic lens.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Pagan Ulver'?

. The name Pagan Ulver is directly tied to nature. “Pagan” reflects the untamed, outside-ofstructure essence we identify with, while “Ulver” — wolves in Norwegian — symbolizes the wilderness, solitude, and raw beauty of the natural world. Together, the name embodies our connection to nature’s darkness and mystery, which are central to our music.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The album artwork was created to mirror the music’s atmosphere — dark, tragic, and majestic, which was made by the talented artist & producer Hicham Hamzi 

(@hhich.design). It portrays the eternal struggle between light and shadow, humanity and monstrosity, which ties directly into the narrative of the vampire that I already mentioned in question 3.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

6. The most important show we’ve played so far was Mosh’kill in February, where we appeared in our true identity for the first time, performing with black metal elements such 

as corpse paint. It was a turning point for us, which marks a new step in our journey. On stage, we aim to deliver a theatrical and intense performance that brings our music fully to life

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

7. We are currently planning more shows in Morocco to promote the album, and we are also exploring opportunities abroad. Touring is definitely one of our next objectives.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

. As you said, we are currently unsigned, but we don’t see that as a limitation. Nowadays, many bands are able to successfully promote themselves without the backing of a label, 

and we take inspiration from that. Bands like Blackbraid have shown how far an independent path can go. For us, what matters most is staying true to our vision and finding 

the right opportunities, whether independently or eventually with a label that truly understands our music.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reaction worldwide has been very encouraging since the beginning. We were humbled by the feature in Metal Hammer last year, and the support from international fans is 

continued since then. It shows us that black metal has no borders. With the release of our album, we expanded the borders to more far regions across the globe, which shows that we can raise our voices even from a small town we live in across the whole globe

10.How would you describe the extreme metal scene in your home country of Morocco?

The extreme metal scene in Morocco is still underground but growing stronger. There’s a dedicated community of musicians and fans who keep the flame alive despite the internal and external challenges. We’re proud to be part of this evolution, yet we are aiming for what’s more beyond the borders, and explore the unexplored.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

 Musically, we see ourselves diving even deeper into the aspects of our sound while keeping the raw black metal energy intact. We want to push the contrast between grandeur and aggression even further, and show that there’s no limitations.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are listening to nowadays?

. Various, we listen to various musical genres, not necessarily just black metal. It could anything that fits the mood of each member, from black metal to classical, folk, indie and 

even ambient music. This diversity is the key that shapes the identity of the artist, it shapes also the sound and provide more various ideas.

  Pagan  Ulver  are  a  band  from  Morocco  that  plays  a  very  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  symphonic  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  album  "Obsidian  Flame  Of  Thy  Offering".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  symphonic  sounds  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  and  blast  beats  are  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  The  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words,  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  the  closing  song.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  fantasy,  tragic  stories,  misanthropy  and  self  destruction  themes.

  Bentala  are  a  solo  project  from  Indonesia  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  demo  "Anantabhoga"  which  was  released  by  WolfKult  Religion.

  A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  demo  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  are  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  tradition  of  the  genre  as  well a s  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  One  of  the  tracks  is  also  an  instrumental  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  slower  riffing  and  the  bonus  track  is  also  a  Grausemkeit  cover.

  Beentala  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  Indonesian  and  cover  darkness  and  spirits.

  Dungeon  synth  style  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Elements  of  tanzelcore  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  all  of  the  drum beats  are  also  programmed  as  well as  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  blast  bears  are  added  into  the  faster  parts  of  the  recording.
