Uvod/Plamenem proshlogo/Atra Anduin Records/2023 Full length Review

Uvod  are  a  duo  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Plamenem  proshlogo"  which  was  released  by  Atra  Anduin  Records.

A  very  dark y et  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  briefly

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are finally  utilized. The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  nature  and  sorrow  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Uvod  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sorrowful  Spirit"  and  "Skald".  8 out  of  10.

Uvod Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We are a duo of brothers from Tver, Russia. But now located in two capitals of Russia - Saint-Petersburg and Moscow. Uvod is the name of a river in the Ivanovo region. These places are our childhood, these forests and fields, ghost villages. We took a similar name because Uvod is our place of power, although we haven't been there for maybe a dozen years

2.Recently you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Someone names it atmospheric black metal, someone just black metal. As creators, it is difficult for us to define genre frameworks, since our references when writing were different, ranging from Finnish classics to modern blackgaze.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Our themes hover in the places we sing about. We touch on significant metaphysical themes of death, life, nature and its anger. In particular, the second track tells about the our village through which the Uvod flows. Now in the place where my ancestors lived, there are damned tourists who buy houses and throw them away, they rot and decompose. The place of my grandfather's death is now someone's couch or sofa, or maybe there's a TV or some other shit. But I hope there is nothing but nature in that place.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Uvod',?

As I said, this is the name of the river. I spent my entire childhood next to it, I bathed, washed, lived in her. A magical picture of this river and its shores formed in my head. It's so strange, because it's been more than 10 years, I've grown up, but it still visit me like a river flows in my head. My tears are her continuation.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The author is my brother. He brought to life the lyrics of the first track, which is called Призыв l. This is the personification of Uvod in our heads. The monstrous giant and cursed lands around which inspire us.

By the way, the art will be supplemented on the design of physical release. The cassette and CD will receive a detailed landscape of those lands and how they are imprinted in our mind.

6.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

No, maybe in the future. There are a lot of ideas for a live shows.

7.So far very little is known about the band, are you planning on expanding your presence in the future or do you prefer to keep a lower profile?

We are probably at the stage of searching for ourselves. We are not interested in commercial success, we are only interested in increasing the number of adherents who pass through our river atmosphere.

8.So far the band has worked with 'Atra Anduin Records', 'More Hate Productions' and 'Zaindevevshaya Ryabina', do you feel these labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?

Collaboration with labels is an important part of Art. For us, the label is a strong ally who supports us and whom we support. If it wasn't for Atra Anduin, we wouldn't have given this interview. If it were not for the mates from the Zaindevevshaya Ryabina and More Hate Prod, our music would not have found its embodiment in reality.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

I would not say that I have seen a reaction on a world-wide level. But if we can judge by the comments of people from different countries, English-language reviews, we were warmly welcomed. In any case, my vision is subjective. I do not really know if our music has found a response in the hearts of anyone.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

The flow inexorably carries forward everything that falls into the river. I hope this year we will present a full-length album that will be the quintessence of what we want to bring to the world. We also hope that the fog of war will dissipate over all of us, because we need to save our strength for much more important battles - metaphysical battles with ourselves.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

BBH and their main figures in the person of Kaldrad, Irminson. I listen to a lot of Polish and Slavonic pagan metal. And in principle, pagan is one of my favorite subgenres, because it is honest, proud, about blood and our memory.

I like Cascadian black metal. I consider this subgenre as a whole to be the face of USBM.

Finnish tradition represented by Satanic Warmaster, Beherit, Archgoat, Horna.

I also like genres that are far from classic black metal, blackgaze, post black. All these are new horizons, it's silly to ignore them for ideological reasons. All these are branches of the same tree.

12.Does Occultism and paganism play any role in your music?

Paganism in the understanding of love for those places and Fatherland - yes. We feel sorry for what has gone into oblivion and will never return that carefree life. All we can do is sing of the bygone time and the nature of that time.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Preserve nature.
