Oskoreien/Hollow Fangs/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Oskoreien  are  a  duo  from  Los  Angeles,  California  that has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  album  "Hollow  Fangs".

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Dissonant  melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  album  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  programmed  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well a s  some  clean  playing  being  added  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Oskoreien  goes  for  a  very  modern,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Oskereien  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Prismatic  Reason"  and  "To  Kiss  The  Viper's  Fang".  8  out  of  10.

Oskoreien/Self Titled/Seventh Seal Records/2011 Full Length Review

  Oskoreien  are  a  1 man  band  from Los  Angeles, California  that plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black metal  with  elements  of  folk music  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  album which  was  released  in  2011  by  Seventh  Seal  Records.

  "Illusions  Perish"  begins  with  nature  sounds  and  folk  music  elements  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  and  then  the  drum beats  and  fast  and  primitive  black  metal guitar  riffs  start  kicking  in  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  and  then  the  grim  black  metal  screams  start  kicking  in  and  after  awhile  the  music  goes  into  a  more  mid  paced  direction  but  does  return  to  the  fast  parts in  certain  sections  of  the  song  along  with  some  guitar  leads  that come  in  and  out  of  the  music  and  halfway  through  the  song  there  are  also  some  slower  atmospheric  riffing  added  in  certain  parts  as  well  as  some  synths.

  "Entropic  Collapse"  begins  with  some  melodic  sounds before  adding  in  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  drums  along with  some atmospheric  guitar  leads  which  utilize  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  a  minute  later  clean  singing  vocals  start  kicking  in  and  after  a  couple of  minutes  the  black  metal  screams  start  making  their  presence  known  in  the  song  and  towards  the end  there  is  a  brief  use  of  soft  and  clean guitar  playing  being  utilized  while  still  having  some  distorted  and  melodic  guitar  leads  in  the  background.

  'River  Of  Eternity"  begins  with  some  nature  sounds  and acoustic  guitars  which  bring  in  elements  of  medieval  folk  music  to  the  song  while  also utilizing  both  finger  picking  and  full  chords  and  the  song  is  all  instrumental.

  "Transcendence"  begins with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  classical  guitars  start  coming  into  the  song  and  a  minute  later  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  drums  start  making their  presence  known  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  before  going into  a  more  fast  and  primitive  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  which  also  lead  up  to  some  grim  sounding  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  after  awhile  the  music  slows  down  a  bit  and  adds  in  some  melodic  vocals  while  also  keeping  around  the  screams  in  certain  sections  of  the  song  along  with  some  guitar  leads  that  come  in  and  out  of  the  song  and  then  the  song  gets  fast  again  before  making  switches back and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  going  back  to  the  cleaner  and  softer  sections  at  times.

  'Ashen Remains" begins  with  some  nature  sounds  before  adding in  some  melancholic  synths  which  then  take  the  song  into  a  classical  music  direction  and  the  song is  all  instrumental  and  closes  the album.

  Song  lyrics  cover  Nature, Philosophical  and  Taoism  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  with  most  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Oskoereien  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal project  with  elements  of  folk  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Illusions  Perish"  and  "Transcendence".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
