Amenspear/All My Gods Are Dying/2025 Full length Review

Amenspear  are  a  solo  project  from  New  York  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2025  album  "All  My  Gods  Are  Dying"  which  will  be  released  on  August  22nd.

A  very  heavy  yet  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  clean  playing  and  synths  are  utilized  they  also  take  the  music  into  more  of  a  progressive  direction  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  used  at  times.

Some  of  the  slower  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  doom  metal  while  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well as  some  of  the  music  also  bringing  in  elements  of  groove  metal  and  alternative  rock,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  inner  struggles.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Amenspear  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "All  my  Gods  Are  Dying"  "Our  Leady  of  Sorrows"  and  "The  Letter".  8  out  of  10.

Reva Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

1 Hi, here is Flv, I'm happy to present Reva, my new post-black metal one-man band.

The idea of Reva was in my mind for a lot of time, but I never realized it before due to a lack of time and the commitment to my other bands.

At the end of 2021, my main band went on stand-by so I started thinking about Reva again: so, at the end of the last summer, I had the inspiration to begin writing music in the way I needed what I see and feel about Reva: in three months I realized the ep "Far Away from all this" and the full length" Urban Madrigals" that I will release later this year.

2.So far you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

2 Reva is beyond pure music, it's a total artistic vision made of photos, images, and feelings.

The music style is post-black metal with progressive and post-rock influences, a violent overture that drowns in atmospheric, melancholic moments, something near an oniric and hallucinating vision like a David Lynch film.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

3 The lyrics talk about the sense of loneliness and vulnerability we live in modern times, where cities devour our existence lost in our daily routine. We are constantly immersed in thousands of people, their voices, their stories, in a perpetual river of souls. But there is a lot of loneliness and frustration, there is no time to understand the suffering of those who are near to us, and this is the great paradox of the modern community always connected by technology and on socials, but so far and alone in the cruel reality. The songs are fully immersed in the rain, the night light, the neon signs of the shops, and the constant noise of the cities

Reva tells the sense of being alone and at the border of this type of life.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Reva'?

4 I found inspiration from the 2018 Swedish film Gräns by Ali Abbasi, a beautiful story about who is different from others and who lives outside of what we identify as normality. The real name of Tina, the protagonist of the movie, the name she had from her breed is Reva. She is beyond humanity and the conventional limits, like the spirit of my music.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

5 The artwork is strongly connected with the mood of the music. The photos are shots I've done in the late afternoon of the last December: the colors, the melancholy of the sky, and the suspended atmosphere of the images represent perfectly the spirit of Reva.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

6 Yes, I'm open to every type of collaboration with people who have a similar vision about music like mine, but Reva will remain my personal project, where nobody can't interfere o slow down my urgency to create music and express myself.

In the past, I had a lot of difficulties in the management of my other bands,  sometimes the personal problems of other members made it impossible to organize activities making things frustrating and difficult in an unacceptable way.

I've understood that my need to make music can't be related to this, I want to be free to follow my passion, so Reva will be always my personal space for creativity and artistic expression.

7.On the ep you also done a cover from 'The Beloved', what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

7 Sweet Harmony is a very famous hit from 1993 and it's a song with a particular atmosphere that fascinated me since the first time I heard the song.

I have a clear memory of a specific moment in my past that I come back to every time I hear the song, so I tried to capture that instant, and the sense of nostalgia and melancholy for something that there is no more.

I rearranged the song,  drowning the music in reverbs, desperation, and oblivion.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

8 Yes, Reva is unsigned and I'm working to find someone for the release of my first full-length. Things are moving fast, let's see what will happen.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of post black metal?

9 The reaction is promising, the first single was well accepted and the first feedbacks for the Ep are good.

I know that for someone my music is a little far from the pure black metal paradigm, but that is part of the things and I don't care too much.

Reva has different influences but the fast rawness aggression and obscurity typic of black metal are strongly present in her music.

I recommend trying to listen and judging by your ears.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

10 The first full-length "Urban Madrigals" is ready and it's another intense musical experience for those who don't fear contamination and surprises.

The music is quite more aggressive, mad, and obscure than in "Far Away..."

I plan to release it by the end of 2023.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

11 I listen to so much different music that influences me unconsciously. Many things come from the past but I don't have any kind of prejudice toward the new bands that are in today's metal underground.

I'm always looking for music that can excite me and stun me with crazy and unsettling contrasts, I'm hungry for intense and new things, ready to try what is recommended to me, this is fuel for my burning soul!

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

12 Thanks so much for the space,

Reva is a new creature who is growing up and who wants to tell her emotions to anyone who has the desire and the time to enter her kingdom.

To do this, just go to

put your headphones on, turn off the light, and get lost in the 28 minutes of "Far away from all this".

Take this trip, my friends, and enter the realm of Reva.

Kall Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

We have gone back to regular rehearsals and have begun writing material for the next album.

2.You have a new album coming out in June, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

I think this one offers a wider palette of sounds and styles. It’s more focused and better composed and also sounding much better, from a production stand-point. It’s still pretty dark and trippy though.

3.This is also your first release in over 5 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

A lot of shit happened in that time. To cut it short we hired a new drummer and wrote material for this album. We also fell into some kind of hiatus for a while for different personal reasons. We finished the recordings about two years ago, and then went through a trial-and-error process of mixing and mastering but finally ending up with a result we are happy with. Since then we’ve been waiting for the right release window.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?

It’s pretty varied, since several of us write lyrics. However, for me, this album has a lot to do with exploring the deep woods of the mind and facing old and new demons.

5.I know that the bands name means ;cold' in Swedish, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

The word has a dual meaning in Swedish. It stands for both ‘cold’ and ‘calling’. I think this name describes us pretty good, interpret it as you will. Some say this album is a little bit warmer to the touch than the last one though, hah!

6.The music that was done under the name 'Lifelover' was very much ahead of its time, do you feel that you helped inspire a new wave of depressive black metal bands with the stuff you have released in the past?

I think so, yes. What followed was however over all pretty boring and depressing, for the wrong reasons.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Some people seem to think that our style is hard to implement on stage. I think we all felt from the beginning that our style comes alive live while the recorded songs don’t necessarily do the songs justice. We try to make it as genuine and intense as we can and while we used to get pretty fucked up on stage earlier we’ve  grown up a little bit since then I hope (but probably not). One of our best gigs was probably at Garage in Bergen, Norway, for the Blastfest festival back in early 2015.

8.The new album is coming out on 'Prophecy Productions', how did you get in contact with this label?

We had worked with them for the last Lifelover album and we had gotten along with Martin early on, so when we were actually looking for a record deal we reached out to them again.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of black metal and other styles of underground and dark music?

 It seems positive thus far!

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

 No idea.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

I expect us to further develop our sound and styles further. You might even hear some clean vocals eventually, who knows! I just know it’s going to be dark, weird and very intense.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Anything and everything man. We compiled a list of songs that inspired us during the writing and recording process of the new album which you can check out here. You can either link the playlist on Spotify or use a shorter list we made for Youtube.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for the support, and a special thanks to everybody who has stayed with us and waited patiently for the new album. The wait has been rough on us also!

Finland's  solo  project  Charming  Timur  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  continues  the  alternative,  nu,  experimental  and  post  black  metal  of  previous  recordings and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  album  "So  Much,  So  Little,  So  Little,  So  Much'  which  will  be  released  in  2016.

Ambient  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  melodic  alternative  rock  style  guitar  leads  a  few  seconds  later  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem  and  the  vocals  are  whispers  that  are  in  a  black  metal  direction  and  death metal  growls  and  clean  singing  can  be  heard  quite  a  lot  throughout  the  recording.

A  lot  of  nu  metal  elements  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  riffs  also  have  a  melodic  yet  depressive  black  metal  tone  to  them  at  times  and  there  is  a  great  amount  of  experimentation  present  throughout  the  whole  recording  and  every  song  sounds  different  from  each  other  and  there  are  also  psychedelic  elements  being  utilized  at  times.

There  are  plenty  of  mainstream  mid  90's  rock  and  metal  influences  mixing  in  with  the  more  extreme  genres  that  where  both  enemies  back  in  that  time  frame  and  there  is  also a  couple  of  instrumental  tracks  later  on during  the  recording  and  some  of  the  songs  also  mix  in  electronic  elements  and  more  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  are  added  onto  the  later  songs  and  when  clean  playing  is  utilized  it  gives  the  music  more  of  a  post  rock  feeling.

With  this  recording  Charming  Timur  still  retains  a  black  metal  edge  while  also  adding  in  elements  of  death  metal  and  focusing  more  of  the  nu  metal,  alternative,  experimental  and  post  rock  influences  this  time  around  to  create  a  very  original  sounding  recording,   the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  angry  and  real  life  themes.

Charming Timur/For The Duration Of Psychiatric Treatment/2015 Full Length Review

Charming  Timur  are  a  1  man  band  from  Finland  that has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  alternative  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2015  album  "For  The  Duration  Of  Psychiatric  Treatment".

Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  harsh  noise  before  adding  in  a  melodic  nu  metal  style  sound  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  which  also  use  some  reverb  and  it  also  gives  the  music  an  industrial  feeling  and  after  awhile  clean  singing  vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  turn  tables.

When  black  metal  screams  are  utilized  more  they  bring  more  of  a  grim  and  depressive  feeling  to  the  music  along  with  the  music  bringing  in  more  shoegaze  and  post  rock  style  melodies  into  the  leads  while  a  great  amount  of  the  slower  riffing  bring  in  elements  of  doom  and  sludge  metal  that  makes  the  music  have  more  of  a  heavy  sound  and  one  of  the  later  tracks  brings  in  elements  of  dream  pop  and  indie  rock  and  the  songs  stick  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction   while  there  still  is  a  great  amount  of  variety  throughout  the  recording.

Charming  Timur  creates  another  diverse  recording  with  this  album  taking  elements  of  depressive  and  post  black  metal  and  mixing  in  some  of  the  slower  riffing  of  doom  and  sludge  metal  and  also  adding  in  elements  of  the  more  mainstream  nu  and  alternative  metal  genres  to  create  an  album  that  is  too  heavy  for  the  nu  metal  crowd  but  not  grim  enough  for  the  kvlt  black  metal  crowd,  the production  sound s very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  depressive  and  everyday  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Charming  Timur  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  that  is  very  different,  you  should  check  out  this  album.   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "You  Are  Next"  "Fly  With  Me"  "Close"  and  "A  Human  Cell".  8  out  of  10.

Dhampyr/Oceanclots/Acephale Winter/2015 CD Review

Dhampyr  are  a  duo  from  Rhode  Island  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  indie,  art,  Psychedelic  rock  and  shoegaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Oceanclots"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Acephale  Winter.

Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  the  recording  starts  adding  in  more  of  a  slow  and  raw  style  of  black  metal  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  as  well  as  keeping  an  experimental  atmosphere  and  they  also  mix  the  clean  and  heavy  parts  together  along  with  some  synths  that  bring  in  elements  of  indie  and  alternative  rock  and  the  vocals  also  bring  in  deep  growls  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.

When  clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  the  songs  bring  in  more  elements  of  shoegaze  and  post  rock  along  with  a  touch  of  psychedelia  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  starts  adding  in  more  of  a  depressive  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  mixed  in  with  the  more  experimental  nature  of  the  recording  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

As  the  album  progresses  a  few  instrumental  tracks  are  added  onto  the  recording  some  that also  stay  away  from  black  metal  and  go  for  more  of  an  ambient  direction  while  some  of  the  later  songs  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  and  suicidal  sounding  screams  and  cries  and  some  of  the  tracks  you  can  also  hear  a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  being  utilized  at  times.

Dhampyr  creates  an  album  that  still  has  a  lot  of  their  raw  and  depressive  black  metal  roots  and  they  mix  them  in  with  experimental,  avant  garde,  ambient,  indie,  post,  alternative  and  psychedelic  rock  to  create  and  album  that  is  very  original  and  hard  to  categorize,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  cover  suicide,  drug  overdoses  and  mental  illness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding from  Dhampyr  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black  metal  that  is  very  experimental,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Waltz  of  the  Salivating  Avalanche"  "This  Nirvana  Of  Tangled  Bullets"  "The  Sewer  Epiphanies"  and  "Her  Cloudless  Shoulders  &  All  Our  Smoke".  8  out  of  10.

Charming Timur Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Charming Timur is my solo project, focusing on experimenting with genres that I have a desire to combine. In this case, it is Nu Metal and Post-Black Metal along with a touch of Sludge and Post-Metal/Post-Rock. The project will probably expand into more genres as time goes on, and I don't want to limit this project musically by setting certain boundaries in terms of genre or lyrical theme. Charming Timur is about freedom of inspiration.

2.Recently you have released your first album, can you tell us a little bit more about your musical sound?

I was really going for a bipolar sound on the first album. I divided the album into two parts. I had some really angry and depressed tracks in the first part and then some tracks that were more focused on the atmosphere and melodies on the second part.

I usually don't like too much contrast on an album, but this time I decided to step out of my comfort zone. A lot of albums, especially in the Nu Metal / Alternative Metal categories, tend to have the ”ultimate angsty sad song” as the last track, which was something I definitely didn't want to do, so it became track number 4 (My Pain). I feel it's a refreshing thing to have the album end with something that leaves you feeling a bit more ”hopeful”.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with your music?

So far the lyrics have been about stuff going on in my head, usually about real life, mostly negative stuff on the first album, but there is no guarantee all my albums will be this negative. There's quite a lot of tracks with themes covering (my) mental problems and emerging pesonality disorders. Then on the other hand there's a song about just not giving up on things in life, despite what people think about it, (9. All The Same) to add some variation as well.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Charming Timur'?

The name ”Charming Timur” is something I came up with to break the tradition of having really artistic and ”deep” band names that have some spectacular meaning behind them. I also thought about the name ”Charming Bennett”, but then I wanted a non-american name to make it stand out a bit more. It literally comes from absolutely nothing of any real meaning.

5.On this album with the exception of an unknown guy playing some drums and tracks on song # 9, you recorded all of the album solo are you open to working with a full band in the future or do you chose to remain solo?

I have tried all kinds of band-projects and such in my time and they never really functioned as smoothly as when I do things by myself. I like to be in control a lot. Everything tends to work out really naturally when I just do things by myself. This does not mean that I couldn't have guest artists on my future material, and I'm actually curious on how that would turn out. I'm not a 100% against working with a band sometime in the future, but I think it's very unlikely. There could be some kind of a ”band arrangement” backing me up on some Charming Timur music video sometime in the distant future, I haven't thought about it yet.

6.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

In today's world where almost nobody buys music anymore, a label seems kind of useless, unless they would be really big so I could really get some attention. Also a lot of labels only accept touring artists, and that makes things more difficult as well. If I would receive a really good offer from a label, I wouldn't refuse it. The problem is that it's an extremely rare thing to come by these days.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of underground metal?

I'm still sort of waiting for more feedback, but so far it has been rather neutral. It has been more positive than negative though. At least it has been something new and refreshing for a lot of people.

8.Recently you have created a blogger, soundcloud and reverbnation for your musical project, do you feel these networks do a lot of help for newer bands and musicians?

I think it depends a lot on the bands and musicians themselves. Sometimes you can just explode in the social media and find yourself having a lot of attention, but then sometimes nothing happens and nobody notices. I think having some kind of social media is good so people can reach you though. Being absolutely out of reach, even though making you KVLT AS FVCK, might make you miss out on a lot. I think blogger has been my favourite social media platform so far.

9.Are you involved with any other musical projects besides this one or is this full time?

Yeah, I'm probably most well known for my solo Harsh Noise/Power Electronics project Whitewater Orgasm. That project has been really well received by a lot of people who are into that kind of stuff. I'm also the vocalist for the super slow Post-Black Doom project Laurasia Awaits Us. Charming Timur is currently the only project I'm actively writing new songs for though.

10.Where do you  see yourself heading into musically during the future?

I will probably go towards a bit brighter and adventurous sounds in the more distant future, and currently I have been writing songs that vary from violent and aggressive ones to kind of softer and more sensitive ones. There will definitely be Nu Metal and Post-Whatever in the future, but more styles might jump into the mix as well.

11.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

There is definitely some influence in the Charming Timur sound from bands such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deafheaven, Alcest, Mouth Of The Architect, Eyehategod (the slower parts in a couple of tracks sound very similar to Eyehategod) and so on, but I never really think about it that much, I just listen afterwards and hear the similarities in the sound.

I usually find myself listening to Sludge, Stoner, Nu Metal or anything with echoing guitars such as Post-Rock or Shoegaze. I listen to a lot less Black Metal than people would assume. I also used to listen to a lot of Noise/Power Electronics and Martial Industrial, but I haven't been listening to that kind of stuff recently. It will probably come back at some point again. Listening to music works in cycles for me. One season something, next season something else.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

I have always been fascinated about figuring out death and what comes after it. Also outerspace, aliens, transhumanism, timetravel and alternate realities have always been extremely interesting to me. When it comes to more ”down to earth” stuff, I'm interested in history, war and weapons in general. As freetime activities I enjoy watching TV and movies a lot.

13.Can you provide some links so people that are hearing of you for the first time can hear your music?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUmA07tcf-k Here is the official music video made in DIY spirit. I think it turned out quite nicely. It's a very symbolic track to describe my sound. Also my handsome facial features can be seen there to leave everyone daydreaming about me.

http://charmingtimur.bandcamp.com/ Bandcamp page for free download and the option to buy the CD.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I hope to see more people just record songs and put them on the internet. Doing things yourself is going to be easier and easier in the future and you can just let your creativity flow. Don't overcomplicate! Also thanks for interviewing me and to everyone who read this interview too!

I have no idea why the font changed for the last question, I can't change it back, sorry about that!
