Stilla/Synviljor/Nordvis/2018 CD Review

  Sweden's  Stilla  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  nature  orientated  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Synviljor"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Nordvis.

  Keyboards  and  acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being   heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  clean  vocals  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Stilla  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  nature  orientated  style  of  black  metal  while  also  utilizing  a  lot  more  raw  aggression  and  brutality  this  time  around,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  the  outer  limits  of  the  human  sensory  condition  and  challenging  the  boundaries  of  existence.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Stilla  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fralsefrosten"  "Myr" and  "Ut  ur  tid  och  rum".  8  out  of  10.

Stilla/Skuggflock/Bindrune Recordings/Nordvis Produktion/2016 CD Review

  Sweden's  Stilla  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  also  continues  the  melancholic  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016 album  "Skuggflock"  which  will  be  released  in  August  as  a  joint  effort  between  Bindrune  Recordings  and  Nordvis  Produktion.

  Clean  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  it  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavy  and  melodic  sound  that  gets  in  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  introduces  deep  and  grim  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.

  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  the  music  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  clean  sections  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  remain  true  to  a  melodic  style  and  atmospheric  synths  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  and  melodic  singing  on  some  of the  tracks  and  there  is  also  a  perfect  balance  between  both  old  school  and  modern  black  metal  influences  and  there  are  also  traces  of  70's  progressive  rock  in  some  of  the  tracks.

  Stilla  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  melancholic  black  metal  style  of  previous  recordings  and  also  mix  the  raw,  atmospheric,  melodic  and  progressive  sides  of  the  genre  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover poetic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Stilla  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Varens  Sista  Onskan"  "Til  Den  Som  Skall  Komma"  and  "Av  Maran  Riden".  8  out  of  10.

Stilla/Ensamhetens Andar/Eisenwald/2015 LP Review

  Stilla  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Ensamhetens Andar"  which  is  getting  the  vinyl  version  released  in  2015  by  Eisenwald.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum beats  and  grim  black  metal  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  a  few  seconds  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  direction  which  also  leads  up  to  the  music  going  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  style  and  all  of  the  musical instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound to  them.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  the  music  starts  bringing  in  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  keyboards  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  epic  feeling  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  you  can  lso  hear  eleemnts  of  progressive  music  in  some  parts  of  the  songs.

  Classical  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  while  some  of  the  certain  leads  also  bring  in  a  more  melodic  and  modern  style  of  black  metal  an  as the  album  progresses spoken  word  parts  can  be  heard  at  times.

  Stilla creates  a  black  metal  album  that  is  very  diverse  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  melodic,  atmospheric  and  progressive  elements  into  the  songs  while  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  raw  aggression,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Stilla  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ensamhetens Andar"  "Hjarta  av  sten"  and  "Skuggornas  Dop".  8  out  of  10.

Stilla/Till Stilla Falla/Nordvis/2013 CD Review

  Stilla   are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  very  nature  orientated  form  of  raw  and  primitive  atmospheric  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Till  Stilla  Falla"  which  was  released  by  Nordvis.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  nature  orientated,  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  to the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  and  there  are  no guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording,  as  for  the  acoustic guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  add  more  nature  elements  to  the  music.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  nature  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Stilla  are  a  very  great  sounding  nature  orientated,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Aldrig  Doden  Minnas"  and  "Allt  ar  Ater".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
