Drudkh/Grift/Betrayed By The Son/Hagringar/Nordvis Produktion/2016 Split EP Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between Ukraine's  Drudkh  and  Sweden's  Grift  2  bands  that  have  had  albums  reviewed  before  by  this  zine  and  this  album  will  be  released  in  September  by  Nordvis  Produktion  and  is  called  "betrayed By  The  Sun/Hagriner"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Drudkh  which  continues  the  atmospheric  and  epic  black  metal  sound  of  previous  recordings.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  while  you  can  also h ear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording  and  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and both  of their  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  modern  atmospheric  elements  and  there  is  also  a  brif  use  of  melodic  chants,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Drudkh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "His  Twenty  Fourth-Spring".

Next  up  is  Grift  a  solo  project  that  also  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  water  sounds  and  after  a  few  seconds  acoustic  guitars  are  added  onto  his  side  of  the  recording  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  heavy  and  melodic  guitar  riffs  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  depressive  black  metal  vocals  and  both  of  his  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  more  of  a  modern  and  melodic  atmospheric  black  metal  style  while  also  mixing  the  acoustic  and  heavy  parts  together  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  folk  instruments  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and   blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the music  more  of  a  raw  edge  while  the  songs  stick  mostly  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  a  mans  struggle  to  find  his  path  in  a  primitive  world.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Grift  and  is  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Cirkeln".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Drudkh/Estrangement/Season Of Mist Underground Activists/2010 CD RE-ISSUE REVIEW

Drudkh are a band from Ukraine that has had their music reviewed in this zine before that plays a raw form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 2007 album "Estrangement" which was originally released in 2007 and re-issued by Season Of Mist Underground Activists during the year of 2010.

Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with some fast playing and brutal blast beats, while the synths are used as only a background effect and they do not overpower the music, as for the bass playing it has a very heavy and distorted tone that is very powerful and easy to hear on this recording.

Rhythm guitars are a mixture of slow, mid paced and raw black metal riffs, while the lead guitars are very melodic and distorted sounding black metal guitar solos with a primitive folk edge to it, as for the acoustic guitars they being a pagan folk edge to the music with a good sense of melody.

Vocals are deep black metal screams, while the lyrics are written in Ukrainian and are about Ukrainian Paganism, Nationalism, and Pride, as for the production it has a very powerful and raw edge and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion this is another good album from Drudkh and fans of this band would not be disappointed. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Solitary Endless Path" and "Only The Wind Remembers My Name". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Drudkh-Microcosmos/Season Of Mist Unerground Activists/2009 CD Review

Drudkh is a band from Ukraine and the mastermind behind this band is also the same guy who does Hate Forest and Blood Of Kingu as well, this is a review of their 2008 album Microcosmos which was recently made available in the United States from Season Of Mist and I would describe their music as epic folk/pagan/black metal.

Drums on this recording range from a lot of slow parts to some brutal blast beats, while the bass playing which you can actually hear on this recording seems to be slow and melodic with some folk and classical influences with a good amount of distortion.

Rhythm guitars cover a lot of different variety with some slow melodic riffs that seems to have a depressive, doomy, distorted edge that covers the feel of ancient tribes when paganism ruled the Earth and no one knew what Christianity was and the mixing of Ukraine traditional music with electric guitars sounds very original, while the leads are very melodic and have some classic metal influences, as for the acoustic guitar it sounds very epic with a lot of influences from classical and folk music that utilizes a lot of full chords.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams, while the keyboards have the feel of a movie soundtrack from a fantasy film, as for the lyrics they are written in a Slavic Language but from hearing the music they seem to be about Slavic Paganism and Mythology. The Pan flute at the end of this recording has a very mysterious tone.

Production on this recording which was recorded during the summer of 2007 at Viter Music in Kharkiv, Ukraine sounds very professional and you can hear all of the music instruments very well.

In my opinion this is a great album and I would recommend to all fans of pagan black metal, you can not do wrong picking up a copy of this cd if you are a fan of this style of black metal. However if your a fan of Hate Forest or Blood Of Kingu, don't expect this still sound like those other projects.. Drudkh is an entity of it's own.

Standout tracks on this recording are "Days That Passed"  and "Widow's Grief.".  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
