Brume d' Automne Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

After a long period of inactivity, we are proud to release our new self-titled album this month and that makes the flame stronger. We are really inspired these days and keep playing and adding new songs.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from the older recordings?

It’s our vision of how the sound of black metal should be...even if we had Dan Swano as the engineer it would be the same because that's what we want. For us it’s a live album... in the battlefield!

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We talk about Québec in all its splendour but with all our anger. We speaks about our culture, our legends and our fights.

4. I know that the bands name means Autumn Mist in french, what is it that interested you in using this for a band name?

I think about all the battles in Québec during the autumn in our history and the mist provoked by the fires and canon's powder.

5. Has the band been able to play out live or is this strictly a studio project?

It’s not strictly a studio project, but we don't think about playing live for the moment...

6. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

We always received good feedbacks from fans of bm... Even if there is some folk elements here and there.
We understand it for the fans of our country because they understand our beliefs and why we put these elements in this kind of music.
But we will always be surprised by all the good comments we received from fans from everywhere.

7. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Athros just returned from is European tour with Forteresse and he is preparing the next Nordmen full length.

8. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

I can tell you that we'll keep the same direction as the beginning of Brume d'Automne, but more aggressive and violently expressive. I think we're able to play the same style of composition and bring something new each time.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also
what are you listening to nowadays?

We listen a lot of black metal... Bands such as Arckanum, Trelldom, Darkthrone has certainly a lot do to with our inspiration. But it can be so many bands that influenced us that we can't only know that these bands influenced us...when we play and compose...I don't think at these bands, we play with our anger and our heart.

10. How would you describe your views on Quebec nationalism and history?

History has proven that the people here will never get their heritage down. A few Hundreds of countrymen and simple citizen against a thousand of British soldiers well trained. Of course we lost, but we will never surrender, our culture and our conviction will stay.

Pride is still there but the war is over, Brume d'Automne try to revive the revolt and one day Quebec is going to be a country.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

I have a passion for hunting and fishing...mostly hunting, but there is nothing like opening a big beer in the middle of the lake and cast the line to catch a fish.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Enjoy our music...vive le métal nouère!!!

Brume d'Automne/Self Titled/Sepulchral Productions/2012 CD Review

Brume  d'Automne  are  a  band  from  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  primitive  form  of  black  metal  with  a  melodic  edge  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2012  album  which  was  released  by  Sepulchral  Productions.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  tone  with  heavy  riffs  that  dominate  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  some  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  as  well  as  adding  an  old  school  feeling  to  the  music  in  addition there  is  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  that  brings  a  folk  music  feeling  to  the  music,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  primitive  and  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  on  the  last  song  they  bring  an  ancient  sounding  pagan/folk  music  feeling  to  the  music.

Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  and  hateful  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  have  a  depressive  feeling  to  them  at  times  along  with  a  brief  use  of  shouting  in  addition  there  is  some  clean  singing  being  utilized  on  the  last  song  for  a  few  seconds  that  bring  a  pagan  feeling  to  the  music  along  with  a  spoken  word  part  at  the  end,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Quebec  Nationalism  and  History,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  Brume  d'Automne  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  primitive  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style  of  music, you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tels  des  Beliers"  "Le  Lieu  Vengeance"  and  "Quand  Les  Corbeux  Crient  Leur  Haine".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
