Misþyrming are a band from Iceland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of t heir 2022 album "Með hamri" which was released by Norma Evangelium Diaboli.
Apocalyptic so8uundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while t he faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the songs more of a raw feeling while the solos and leads are also done in a very dark yet melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with one track also adding in a brief use of military style marches, synths can also be heard briefly but keeping the main focus on a heavier direction and one track also adds in a small amount of choirs. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover darkness, suffering, chaos and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Misþyrming and if you are a fan of raw and melodic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Engin MisKunn" and "Aftaka". 8 out of 10.
