Kult Of Taurus 2014 Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the last time we talked?
1.Well,many things that were important for the band to be "shaped" and to serve it's purpose as it should. In 2011 our former drummer C.T. who contributed in our demo and the split release left the band which was a "step-back" for us since we had already began working with him for this album. We went through the usual searching process and finally nodens(Prometheus,Lord Impaler,North gate) took the challenge to record the drums and you can hear the result in this album. We are more than satisfied for his contribution,he did an amazing job as any serious musician should!Still,he could not continue as a full-member within the band for his personal reasons and now Hellscum is on drumming duties. In addition Bile joined as a second guitarist
so at least for now the line-up is stable and the new members contribute their fullest.

2.You recently put out a new album which sounds a lot more different than the last one I have reviewed, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical sound of the new album and the progression you have made during the last 5 years?
2.Divination Labyrinths is no ordinary album. We understood that when the first songs started to appear in 2010. We knew we had some powerful material and thus we knew that nothing should be left in chance. We recorded many times and all got thrown away until it could satisfy us.The same process went also for the album cover which was very important for us to carry the feeling of the album and represent it 100%.Later I decided to send an email to Vicotnik and see if he would like to produce our album(again,no ordinary choice) and he accepted.
We spend a lot of nights talking through emails about how the album should sound, and what we want to achieve. He is one of the most passionate and dedicated musicians I've ever had the chance to meet.In everything he does he offers his 120%.One can hear his presence in this album.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored with your newer release and what are some of the changes you have made as a songwriter?
3.I think my nature was always a more spiritual and philosophical one. Doubts about life and existence were always high since my early age. So,constant reading,thinking/questioning(this word sounds alien in this age I know) and searching/examine could do nothing less than awake my promethean black flame and change the course of my existence. So at the point
I was writing the lyrics for Divination Labyrinths,I had already gained my first experiences from the books I was into at that time."Where No Moon Rises" for example is a very important song for those who understand in many ways.I turned my back to the illusional reality(The light that divides the earth,ÐÔÙÓÇ) and descented inwards to ascend upwards!A very special
album indeed!A symbol of change! For to live is to change! Hail Lucifer! Hail his essence!

4.In the email you sent me, you said something a bout a spiritual growth since the last album can you tell us a little bit more about yet?

4.The above answer covers this as well.No need to say more.

5.I remembered the last time we talked you said you had only done one show back then, have you had the chance to do any live shows since then and improve your stage performance?
5.A live show is something very serious at least for us.In my opinion you can not treat such an important matter like "fun" and insert limiting behaviours for beer-drinkers/non-thinkers.You need to present your work to the fullest and you can only do that when you feel like you can which is NOT all the time. With this being said we have only done 2 shows(since 2009),one supporting Rotting Christ in 2011 and another in 2013 as headliners.Experience earned in both cases, negative and positive!

6.The new album came out on Forever Plagued Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
.Nothing unusual,I just send promos to labels I thought we would fit best and we came to an agreement with FPR. A very respected label in underground circles and a serious one. They respect us and treat our material with care!

7.A few years back you did a split album with Stenhos, what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on that album?
7.Well Sthenos was an one-man band with whom we shared some similar experiences and decided to make a split release. He produced the split and we still like the atmosphere that it did create in both bands. It was released in a limited number of tapes by wulfrune worxxx.I am not aware of how it was perceived by listeners though.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the progression of your new album by fans of black metal?

8.It is still very early to say.It is not our highest concern.

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
9.The honest direction.Kult Of Taurus has never stopped creating, rehearsing and evolving. We are dedicated to our cause. Free from limitations.Towards chaos! Hail sophia! Hail Tehom!

10.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

10.Thank you for your interest in our music and for spreading our word again! Ave victoria!

Kult Of Taurus/Divination Labyrinths/Forever Plagued Records/2013 CD Review

Kult  Of  Taurus  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  band  with  a  musical  style  I  would  describe  as  being  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Divination  Labyrinths"  which  was  released  by  Forever  Plagued  Records.

The  album  starts  out  with  an  intro  that  utilizes  some  dark  sounding  synths  which  also  brings  in  some  avant  garde  elements  and  spoken  word  parts  and  once  the  album  gets  pass  the  intro  it  goes  into  some  original  sounding  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  along  with  some  grim  screams  which  also  leads  up  to  blast  beats  getting  thrown  into  certain  sections  of  the  music  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  deeper  vocals  and  the  bass  guitars  are  very  powerful  sounding  on  this  recording  and  the  music  also  adds  in  some  psychedelic  sounds.

As  the  album  moves  on  they  start  mixing  in  some  fast  parts  with  some  of  the  newer  sounds  that  they  introduced  on  the  first  song  while  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  mid  paced  direction  and  you  can  also  hear  some  medieval  elements  being  mixed  in  with  the  black  metal  guitar  riffing,  on  the  fourth  song clean  playing  is  introduced  into  the  music  which  also  leads  to  the  album  getting  more  experimental  and  by  the  time  the  5th  song  comes  around  there  is  a  brief  use  of  melodic  vocals  being  utilized,  and  when  the  album  gets  closer  to  the  end  you  can  hear  some  of  their  old  school  black  metal  influences  being  mixed  in  with  psychedelic  elements  and  death  metal  growls.

You  can  hear  a  lot  of  musical  growth  from  the  last  4  years  and  they  have  added  in  newer  elements  as  well  as  get  a  lot  better  on  their  musical  instruments  and  this  sounds  like  a  very  different  band  than  the  one  I  reviewed  4  years  ago  but  they  remain  true  to  the  occult  side  of  black  metal  and  I  can  see  this  recording  making  this  band  a  better  known  name  and  they  can  compete  with  all  of  the  best  bands  of  this  genre  with  the  way  they  have  grown  as  musicians  and  they  way  they  bring  in  synths  on  the  last  song  brings  a  classical  music  flavor  along  with  an  evul  sounding  choir  to  the  recording  as  well  as  an  epic  sounding  ending.

Song  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  occultism  and  Minoan  Paganism,  while  thew  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy,  dark  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kult  of  Taurus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  heavy  and  not  afraid  to  try  out  new  things,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Channeling  End"  and  "Where  No  Moon  Rises".  8  out  of  10.

Kult Of Taurus Interview

1. Can you give us a brief history of the band?

Kult of taurus was created in 2007 by Sarpedon and Sythanagon,in order to perform old school black metal and to spread chaos and hatred in this pitiful world. There have been many lineup changes in bass and drums, but we have successfully managed to fill it with a steady lineup now with responsible and devoted members like PlatΩn and Christ Torturer..But one can never know what the future holds.

2. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

When we created this band our goal was to create a musical identity and to sound unique yet always in the path of the old school black metal roots. Our sound is a blend of Swedish black metal with an aura of the second wave of the Norwegian black metal scene and some 80's thrash. But I think we have managed to create our own sound so the only thing I can suggest is to check us out and find out yourselves.

3. What is the meaning behind the band's name?

In the Minoan ages as well as in ancient Hellas the Taurus, played an important role in peoples livesand you can find this exquisite animal in many mythological reports as well..Zeus used it as one of his manifestations and so did other gods!In the Minoan civilization a Taurus was worshiped, and used in their rituals as well but most important it was a symbol for a whole nation. You can find it in the walls of Knossos,in statues or painted in vases. This animal symbolizes beauty, will, and undisputed strength..So it was chosen"Kult of Taurus".

4. Have you received any label interest yet?

No,not yet...

5. Have you done any live shows and if so how would you describe a Kult Of Taurus show?

We have done only one live show, and to be honest from now on we've decided to play only selectiveshows as we have been dissappointed by the pathetic organisation, lack of respect to the bands as well asthe lack of communication within the bands so I wouldn't expect many live shows..

6. Are there any tour plans?

No,I think the above answer can answer this question as well.

7. What direction do you see the band going into on future releases?

I can surely tell you what kind of direction the band is NOT going into..Typical blastbeat, boring Darkthrone-clone riffs, trendy and shiny production and lack of inspiration or interest.!

8. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?

Our lyrics are mostly based upon the Minoan civilization and mythology. We are fascinated by the mystery and darkness that surrounded these years.Rituals, sacrifices, wars, enslavement but yet incredi-ble power, wealth and spiritual evolution, the Minoans were so ahead of their time and that's the reason why the Minoan civilization is considered the first european civilization that ever existed..But lets face itBlack Metal goes hand in hand with satan,so we also see the evil and darkness that existed in that periodand we express that.Other than that our themes are anti-christian and against this form of life or enslavementif you will..We DO NOT deal with any kind of NS themes as it has nothing to do with Black metal!

9. What are your main influences music wise or non music wise?

Musically First of all the almighty Bathory! Then Mayhem,Satyricon,Watain,Dissection,Khold and many more!Non-music wise:Death, satan(in all his forms),history, obscure photography and paintings, poetry and our hate towards life!

10. What are you listening to nowadays and what are some good bands or releases that you would recommend?

From the new releases I am listening to Glorior Belli,Katharsis,IXXI,Funeral Mist and 1349.Other than thatI am into old school thrash bands like OLD,Nekromantheion and Deathhammer.I would also recommend to checkout the latest release of Rotting Flesh from Hellas..a true occult Death..Black metal masterpiece!

11. What role does Satanism or Occultism play in your music or life?

Satanism and occultism hold the biggest role of interest in our lives.Once you have awaken you see the world with different eyes..But one must never stop searching and while searching you might not find very "nice"things, thats why not many dare to enter true satanism.Hail 218!

12. Are there any films or books that you would recommend?

Preaching never was or ever will be our style. What we would recommend is to search by yourselves and awaken
the black flame inside you!

13. Any final words?

Our Hails to all of our fans in America!Keep spreading the disease!

14. Thanks for the interview?

Thanks for the interview and the support. The kult has spoken!

Kult Of Taurus Once Fallen/2009 Album Review

Kult Of Taurus Are a band from Greece that plays a raw and primitive form of black metal with a lot of influences from the mid 80's to early 90's and this is a review of their 2009 album "Once Fallen".

Drums on this recording use a lot of slow to mid paced beats with the occasional blast beat, while the bass playing utilizes a dark tone throughout the album and it has a real dark sound.

Guitars on this album are mostly fast black metal rhythms that have a lot of influences from the early masters, and there is not any guitar leads, while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some deeper vocals that have a thrash feel.

Production on this recording sounds very primitive and dark which suits the music perfectly, while the lyrics seem to be very hateful and depressing with some anti christian themes. In my opinion this is a good album from a good band and this seems to have more of a classic black metal feel instead of sounding trendy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
