Expulser/The Unholy One/Greyhaze Records/2018 CD Re-Issue Review

  Expulser  where  a  band  from  Brazil  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  early  mixture  of  black,  war  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1993  album  "The  unholy  One"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  April  by  Greyhaze  Records.

  A  very  heavy  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  which  also  mix  in  a  very  blackened  death metal style  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also h ear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  thrash  along  with  a small  amount  of  melody  and  when  guitar  leads  are utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  raw  yet  chaotic  fashion  as well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  demonic  voices  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  when  keyboards  are  utilized  they  bring  in  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  film.

  On  this  recording  Expulser  remained  true  to  their  early  mixture  of  black,  war  and  death  metal  while  also  mixing  in  more  thrash  elements  this  time  around,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness,  Evil,  Satanism,  Alcohol  and  Anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Expulser  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  war,  death  and  thrash  metal, you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Praise  To  The  Almighty  God"  "The  Unholy  One"  "The  Evil  Orgasm"  and  "No  Ressurrection".  8  out  of  10.

Expulser/Fornications/Greyhaze Records/2017 EP Re-Issue Review

  Expulser  where  a  band  from  Brazil  that  played  an  early  bestial  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1990  ep  "Fornications"  which  was  re-issued  in  2017  by  Greyhaze  Records.

  Wind  sounds  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  while t he  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  death  metal  growls  and  grim  black  metal  screams  and  when t he  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great amount  of  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  while  also  bringing  in  a  style  that  would  later  evolve  into  war  metal  along  with  the  riffs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  thrash  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  fashion.

  Expulser  played  a  musical  style  that  was  very  aggressive  and  brutal  for  its  time  and  mixed  the  rawest  and  heaviest  elements  of  war,  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  to  create  one  of  the  heaviest  releases  of  1990,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness,  Satanism  and  Evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Expulser  where  a  very  great  sounding  early  bestial  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Offensor".  8/5  out  of  10.
