DunkelNacht/Sombre Nuit/Non Serviam Records/2022 EP Review

France/Canada's  DunkelNacht  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Sombre  Nuit"  which  will b e  released  in  May  by  Non  Serviam  Records.

A  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody  while  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.

A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  organs  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  the  ep  also  closes  with  an  acoustic  instrumental.

On  this  recording  DunkelNacht  remains  true  to  the  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  anti  Monotheism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  DunkelNacht  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  aggressive  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Oligarchislamisme"  and  "Étau  chrétien".  8 out  of  10.

DunkelNacht/Empires Of Mediocracy/Non Serviam Records/2019 CD Review

France/Netherlands's  DunkelNacht  have  returned  with  a  new  album which  continues  their  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of their  2019  album  "Empires  Of  Mediocracy"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by Non  Serviam  Records.

A  very  dark,  heavy  and  technical  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  death  metal growls  a  few  seconds  later.  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  music  also  adds  in  some  progressive  and  dissonant  structures  at  times  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  technical  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  sci-fi  atmosphere  on  one  song  while  also  adding  in  a  more  tragic  style  on  a  alter  track  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adding   in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking.  As  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  and  the  music  is  a  lot  more  technical  than  the  previous  albums  that  where  reviewed  in  this  zine.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  revolving  around  world  supremacy.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  DunkelNacht  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Relentless  Compendium"  "Amongst  the  Remnants  of  Liberty"  and  "Non  Canimus  Surdis".  8  out  of  10.

DunkelNacht/Anthropocenia/WormHoleDeath Records/2017 EP Review

DunkelNacht  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  ep  "Anthropocenia"  which  was  released by  WormHoleDeath  Records.

Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  heavy  yet  melodic  riffing  being  added  onto  the  recording  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  acoustic guitars  can  also  be  heard  in certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  instrumentals.

DunkelNacht  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  from  their  previous  release  while  also  mixing  in  a  depressive  edge,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  atheism  and  mankind  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  DunkelNacht  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Anthropocenia"  and  "Ikonoklazt".  8  out  of  10.

DunkelNacht Interview

DUNKELNACHT – Ritualz of the occult E.P. era interview

Answers by Alkhemohr, M.C. Abagor & Heimdall.

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

- Lately we are paying allot of attention to the promotion of our EP called "Ritualz of the occult", The promotion is mostly done by gigging and from those shows we get more shows and thus making allot of promotion, And for this reason we'll also be touring againaround September/October.
And for the tip of the iceberg we are working on the pre-productions of an upcoming full-length album...

2.Recently you have released a new EP, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

- New production comes with new ideas and for this EP also even a new vocalist (M. C. Abagor) who has a wider range of vocals in his voice, so some might have noticed that the EP sounds more Black/Death Metal like.
And we have also been paying allot of attention to the recording and everything around the production of this EP, and also gave a personal sound and feeling to it for the final end result.

3.Your lyrics cover a lot of Atheism and Anti-Religion topics, can you tell us a little bit more about these views?

Atheism and Anti-religion topics were particularly present in the first album, but lyrics have had an evolution and so in general the lyrics from "Revelatio" and "Ritualz of the occult" are about criticizing society and different human cultures.
Also we can let you know that our next album will be a concept album but, we don't want to tell you what it will be about yet...

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'DunkelNacht'?

- To keep it short "DunkelNacht" means dark night and you can experience it while sleeping but also experience it during your daily life.
For example, you go to work do your thing and come home, but during that time there is always something dark and bitter happening on this planet.
Sound is always of the uttermost importance to us and for that we choose to call our self "DunkelNacht".

5.Originally the band was more ambient but have gone into a more heavy and blackened musical direction over the years. What was the decision behind going into this musical direction?

- Just like the music, the band also experienced an evolution as it started from a one-man project to a full member band. And this Evolution came from a musician and musical influence.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

- Many shows have been great. But there are always better and less better gigs between them.
As for when you talk about the BEST shows that we've had, we'd have to say, Mass Deathruction, Gohelle Fest and many gigs in eastern Europe.
To come back to the subject of evolution it also happened to our stage performance. And for that we intend to stimulate as much senses during a live show as possible, may it be due to sound and visual stimulation.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We can't really give you a clear answer on this question unfortunately, because we are working on it and nothing is certain yet.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

- The feedback so far has been really great. We are putting a lot of efforts to put the band on a higher level, to produce always sincere music. We think that is the audience/fans are searching for. We play our music for ourselves too, so it is never possible to satisfy everyone....

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

- Just the usual stuff, writing music and playing live shows and promote projects for sure !

10.Where do you see the band heading musically during the future?

- As for we are constantly evolving, we hope to deliver more music for the ears to listen, may it be through the sound system at home or during a live show.
And hopefully we get greater shows from it and festivals.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

- All members have a different taste in music : from classical to jazz or from blues to classic rock... And for that it is a good thing, for it delivers a wide range of combined genre's and not only Metal.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

DunkelNacht/Ritualz Of The Occult/WormHoleDeath Records/2016 EP Review

DunkelNacht  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Ritualz  Of  The  Occult"  which  was  released by  WormHoleDeath  Records.

Avant  garde  drones  start  off  the  ep  before  adding  in  some  neo  classical  style  keyboards  which  also  introduces  melodic  guitar  leads  and  blast  beats  onto  the  recording  and  the   vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  riffs.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  riffs  also  get  technical  at times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  elements  that  where  present  on  the  intro  also  get  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  parts  at  times  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  elements of  modern  prog  metal  while  one  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  melodic  singing  while  ethnic  instruments  are  added  onto the  last  song  along  with  a  few  spoken  word  parts.

DunkelNacht  plays  a  musical  style  takes  an  aggressive  black  metal  style  and  mixes  it  in  with  some  death  metal,  prog  and  experimental  elements  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Atheism,  Anti  Abrahamic  and  Mankind  themes.

In  my  opinion  Dunkelnacht  are  a  very  decent  sounding  experimental  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ritualz  Of  The  Occult"  and  "Emblem  of  A  Diluted  Deism".  7 out  of  10.
