Baron Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

1. Baron is a one man self serving black metal project, a hostile emotional cathartic vent exhausted from environmental and psychological stimuli, a special hobby I have that a very few of the people within my circle know of. It's riff and atmosphere driven, altering between monotony and melody driven black metal or groovy and spiteful punkish/thrashy riffage in between each release. It will always sound raw, harsh and miserable.

2.Recently you have released your first full length, musically how does it differ from your 3 previous demos?

2. Yes it is different, it's groovier and riffier, it had less melodic passages and the vocals are buried underneath whatever filthy riff I came up. There's a "pattern" I'm doing with every release. The ones with the good old  black and white cover arts will be a lot more monotonous and melody driven while the colored ones will have to be groovier and riffier or even experimental at some point.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

3. So far I've delved topics based on the media I've consumed, Philosophical Books that I've read and awful personal experiences that I had for the past 25 years of my existence. It's like viewing diving into a sea of Nihilism with a set of cynical diving gear.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Baron'?

4. It's taken from one of my favorite enemies from Doom : Baron of Hell.

It also represents a false sense of middle-tier royalty; the modern middle class of which I'm part of, I work a corporate job after all.

It doesn't have much meaning to me but it has a solid purpose: to fuck with the people and the search algorithm on their search engines when they try to find it. "Baron" is such a general term and it's simple.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

5. It's a photo of 3 Moro Rebels that were hanged during the Filipino-American War(Moro Rebellion) . Figuratively, It's The slow and painful suffocation of the human mind, body and spirit through endless meaningless consumption, desensitization, decline of morality, slow death of conservation, meaningless exhausting work, and idolatry of weak substance-less beings.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

6. I record and write everything by myself during my spare time after work, it keeps me busy, I'm open to work with other musicians as long as we're releasing splits. "Baron" started as a one man project and it will end that way.

7.So far very little is known about the solo project, are you planning on expanding your presence in the future or do you prefer to keep a low profile?

7. I doubt that this project is going to expand, I'd rather keep a low profile and just share it to other low profile outlets as well. Black Metal is a really rad musical niche.

8.Currently you ar eunsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

8. I don't mind getting signed as long as the label genuinely supports this kind of music. I did receive interest for futile resistance, that's why it had tapes for it.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

9. I'm barely known so I have no Idea.

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

10. Same place, different time.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

11. Id say Craft, Mgla,Clandestine Blaze, Furia, Kriegsmaschine, Leviathan, Kommodus, Deathspell Omega, Deiphago and Morkhgrat are my main foundations for Black Metal, Non metal acts include Up Dharma Down, CM RV, Limbs, Mad Season, Joy Division and Bad Religion.

Been listening to Erraunt and Dragged Into Sunlight for sometime and they're a fucking blast to listen to.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

12. Digital copies of my work will always be free on Bandcamp as long as it doesn't reach the monthly free download quota, I'm doing this solely for myself and the music.

Baron/Dissent/2021 Demo Review

Baron  are  a  solo  project  from  The  Philippines  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  misanthropic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  demo  "Dissent".

Dark  soundscapes  and  clean  playing  start  of  the  demo  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  All  3  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  angry  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  are  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also b eing  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

Baron  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  misanthropic  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  nihilism,  pessimism  and  suicide  themes.

In  my  opinion  Baron  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  misanthropic  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  dmeo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Dissent  III".  8  out  of  10.
