Black Autumn/Forodren/In The Vast Emptiness/Fiadh Productions/2023 Split Album Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Germany's  Black  Autumn  and  Canada's  Forodren  called  "in  The  Vast Emptiness"  which  will  be  released  in  April b y  Fiadh  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Black  Autumn  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  his  atmospheric  mixture  of  ambient  black  and  doom  metal.

His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  percussions,  stringed  instruments,  nature  sounds  and    ambient  style  synths  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  clear  singing  and  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  most  of  his  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  towards  the  end.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  gloom,  death  and  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Autumn  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient,  atmospheric  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Remember  The  Rain".

Next  up  is  Forodren  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  an  atmospheric  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal.

His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  his  side  of  the  recording.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  yet  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  most  of  his  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cove r depression  and  melancholy  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Forodren  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and depressive  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Voidseeker".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Black Autumn/Losing The Sun/Rain Without End Records/2014 CD Review

Black  Autumn  are  a  1  man  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  ambient  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Losing  The  Sun"  which  will  be  released  in September  by  Rain  Without  End  Records.

A  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  ambient  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavy  and  melodic  doom  metal  direction  along  with  the  leads  and  solos  taking  the  same  out  as  the  riffing  and  after  awhile  grim  black  metal  screams  start  becoming  a  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  some  keyboards  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

Ambient  elements  are  a  huge  part  of  this  album  and  they  mix  in  with  the  heavier  parts  at  times  as  well  as  the  guitar  riffing  bringing  in  more  raw  and  black  metal  traces  and  the  vocals  also  have  a  depressive  feeling  to  them  at  times  and  clean  and  acoustic  guitar  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  bring  more  of  a  post  rock  edge  to  the  recording  and  they  bring  in  a  more  progressive  side  to  the  artist's  musical  style.

As  the  album  progresses there  are  some  psychedelic  and  electronic  music  elements  being  mixed  in  with  the  more  ambient  side  of  the  recording  and  after  awhile  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  are  added  into  the  music  when  the  guitars  start  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  fast  riffing  while  the  main  focus  is  on  a  slow  dark  metal  musical  style  and  one  of  the  later  tracks  also  sees  a  few  seconds  of  spoken  word  parts  being  utilized  as  some  of  the  songs  on  the  album  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Black  Autumn  remains  true  to  his  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  black  and  doom  metal  as  well  as  adding  in  more  melody  this  time  around  and  showing  a  great  amount  of  progress  on  the  guitars  and  keyboards  which  also  have  more  of  an  organic  feeling  this  time  around,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover dark,  poetic  and  melancholic  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Autumn  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Losing  The  Sun"  "From  Whence  We  Came"  and  "In  The  Ruins  Of  June".8 out of 10.

Black Autumn/The Advent October/Bylec Tum./2012 EP Review

Black  Autumn  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  that  I  would  describe  as  being  ambient  black  metal  with  some  doom  metal  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  ep  "The  Advent  October"  which  was  released  by  Bylec  Tum.

Drum  programming  ranges  from  slow  to  mid  paced  beats,  while  the  synths  bring  a  very  atmospheric  and  dark  ambient  sound  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  ambient  black  metal  with  doom  metal   as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  and  there are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  full  chords  to  enhance  the  darkness  that  is  coming  out  of  the  music.

Vocals  are  mostly  deep  doom  metal  growls   mixed  in  with  some  deeper  depressive  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  a  brief  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  as  for the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

Black Autumn/Aurora/Cain Records/2010 CD Review

Black  Autumn  are  a man  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  that  I  would  describe  as  being  ambient  black  metal  with  doom  metal  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2010  album  "Aurora"  which  was  released  by  Cain  Records.

Drum  programming  ranges  from  slow  to  mid  paced  beats,  while  the  synths  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  ambient  sound  to  the  music  with  elements  of  psychedelic  music  being  utilized  at  times,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  ambient  black  metal  riffs  that  utilize  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  doom  metal  influences  in  the  riffing  with  a  good  amount  of  the  songs  being  instrumental  as  well  as  adding  some  soft  and  clean  playing  at  times,  while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  are  very  depressive  and  melodic  sounding  dark  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  to  bring  a  more  dark  avant  garde  sound  to  the  music.

Vocals  are  mostly  deep  depressive  black  metal  screams  with  some  spoken  word  samples  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  metaphysical themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  songs  not  being  either  too  short  or  long  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  recording  from  Black  Autumn  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  black  metal  mixed  with  doom  metal,  you  should  check  this  album  out.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Three  Fold  Life"  "Seven  Spirits"  and  "Aurora".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Black Autumn/Rivers Of Dead Leaves/Antichristian Front Records/2008 CD Review

Black Autumn are a band from Germany that plays an ambient form of black metal with a doomy edge, and this is a review of their 2008 album "Rivers Of Dead Leaves" which was released by Antichristian Front Records.

Drum programming is mostly slow to mid paced beats with no fast playing or blast beats, while the synths bring a very dark ambient feel to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone which follows the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow to mid paced primal ambient black metal riffing that also takes a lot of influences from doom metal, while the lead guitars are depressive sounding black metal leads, as for the classical guitars they bring a lot of melody and darkness to the music.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls being utilized at times, while the lyrics touch on gloom, death, and darkness mixed in with some samples, as for the production it has a very dark feel to it without being to over produced.

In my opinion Black Autumn are a very good ambient black metal band with a doomy edge and if you are a fan of this genre you should check this band out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Darkness Profound" and "Ophelia". RECOMMENDED BUY.
