Nagaarum/D.I.M/NGC Prod/2019 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Hungary's  solo  project  Nagaarum  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  experimental  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  the  album  was  originally  released  in  2016  and  called  "D.I.M"  and  was  re-issued  in  2019  by  NGC  Prod.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them  and  the  vocals  are  a mixture  of  clean  singing  and  grim  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  The  music  also  has  its  experimental  moments  along  with  some  elements  of  doom  metal  also  being  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  as  well  as  some  synths  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  ambient  orientated  instrumentals  as  well  as  some  of  the  drum  beats  also  being  programmed  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics cover the Russian chemist  Dimitri Ivanovich  Mendeleev.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Magaarum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rb"  "Hg"  and  "H".  8  out  of  10.

Nagaarum/Gleccserek/NGC Productions/2019 RFe-Issue Full length Review

 

  Hungary's  solo  project  Nagaarum  has  returned  with  an  older  recording  which  shows  the  music  moving  away  from  the ambient,  black  and  doom  metal  elements  of  his  previous  releases  and  goes  for  a  mixture  of  psychedelic  and  alternative  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015 album  "Gleccserek"  which  was  re-issued  in  2019  by  NGC  Productions.

  Programmed  drumbeats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  psychedelic  soundscapes  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  clean  playing.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  alternative  and  post  rock  elements.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  whispers  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  being  done  in  a  clean   style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  black  metal  influences  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  the  music  going  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction  on  later  songs along  with  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  geological  ages.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  decent  sounding  recording  from  Nagaarum  and  while  some  black  metal  fans  might  not  like  the  direction  of  this  release,  I  can  see  this  recording  appealing  to  fans  of  alternative,  psychedelic  and  post  rock.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Szaporulat"  "Katasztrofa"  and  "Sailing  At  The  Chilled  Sea  -  III.  The  Melting".  7/5  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Hungary's  solo  projects  Nagaarum  and  Astru  called  " .​.​.​a  mizantrópia  és  elidegenedés  újabb  értelmezései​.​.​."  which  was  released  on  cassette  by  NGC  Prod  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Nagaarum  who  on  tihs  recoridng  plays  an  experimental  mixture  of  post  black,  doom  metal  and  dark  ambient.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  melodic  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them  and  the  synths  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  sounding  along  with  both  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing,  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  and  touches  of  post  rock  can  also  be  heard  on  the  second  song.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Hungarian  and  cover  Science,  Space,  Nature  and  Mankind  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nagaruum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  dark  ambient,  post  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Sarjadó ".

  Next  up  is  Astru  a  solo  project  that  plays  an  raw,  experimental  and  ambient  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  fleeing.

  Throughout  his  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  short  in  length,  when  synths  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  touches  of  ambient,  a  later  song  also  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  experimental  direction  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  direction.  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  while t h e lyrics  are  written  in  Hungarian  and  cover  dark  and  metaphysical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Astru  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  raw  black  emtal,  experimental  and  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Feledés  az  idő  hasadékában"  "Amíg  el  nem hal  az  élet  fénye  a  reménylő  szemekben"  and  "Az  árvák  karácsonya".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  experimental  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Nagaarum/Eventvm Fatali/NGC Prod/2014 CD Review

 

  Nagaarum  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  played  an  experimental  mixture  of  post  black,  doom  metal  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2014  album  "Eventvm  Fatali"  which  was  released  by  NGC  Prod.

  Experimental  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  distorted  guitar  sounds  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  very  slow  and  heavy  doom  metal  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a raw  feeling.  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  post  metal  elements  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  touches  of  dark  ambient.  One  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  a  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  th e lyrics  are  written  in  Hungarian  and  cover  Natural  Disasters.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nagaarum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  experimental, d ark  ambient,  post  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Az  utolsó  meteor"  "Az  utolsó  szökőár"  "Az  utolsó korona-kidobódás"  and  "Az  utolsó  gamma-kitörés".  8 out  of  10.

Nagaarum/Covid Diaries/Aesthetic Death/2020 CD Review

 

  Hungary's  Nagaarum  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  metal  psychedelic,  ambient  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Covid  Diaries"  which  was  released  by  Aesthetic  Death.

  Ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  while spoken  word parts  can  also  be  heard  a  few  seconds  later  along  with  some  drum  beats,  Distorted  sounding  drones  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  some  clean  singing  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  and  the  slower  sections  of  songs  also  add  in  elements  of  doom  metal. 

  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  all  of  the  songs  also  having  a  different  sound  from  each  other.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  psychedelic  sounding  as  well  as  adding  in  some  touches  of  noise,  aggressive  and  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording, 

 Operatic  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  some  clear  male  vocals,  some  tracks  also  add  in  more  of  a  sci-fi  and  apocalyptic  orientated  atmosphere.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Covid  19  pandemic.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nagaarum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom  metal, psychedelic,  ambient  and  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  First  Ingredient"  and  "Liquid  Tomorrow".  8  out  of  10.

Nagaarum/Apples/Aesthetic Death/2018 CD Review

  Nagaarum  are  a  solo  project  from  Hungary  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  metal,  progressive,  ambient  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  album  "Apples"  which  was  released  by  Aesthetic  Death.

  Avant  garde  sounds  and  ambient  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  the  second  track  shows  the  music  getting  a  lot  of  heavier  along  with  some  clean  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  being  utilized  as  well  as  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  doom  metal  elements.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  are  also  mixed  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  progressive  and  experimental while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  instrumentals  along  with  some  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  grim  black  metal  screams  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  post  rock  are  added  onto  the  recording  and a  couple  of  later  tracks  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars,  drones  and  female  vocals  into  the  music.

  On  this  recording  Nagaarum  takes  experimental,  progressive,  black,  doom  metal,  ambient  and  post  rock  and  mixes  them  together to  create  something  very  different,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  that  covers  the  history  of  3  scientists  Isaac  Newton,  Robert  Hooke  and  Edmond  Halley  and  their  contributions  to  the  scientific  world  and  thinking.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nagaarum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  progressive,  black,  doom  metal,  ambient  and  post  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Isaac"  "Robert"  "Edmond"  and  "Modern  History".  8  out  of  10.

Nagaarum/Homo Maleficus/Grimm Distribution/NGC Productions.2017 CD Review

  Nagaarum  are  a  solo  project  from  Hungary  that  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal,  doom, dark  ambient  and  experimental  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "Homo  Maleficus"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  by  Grimm  Distribution  and  NGC  Productions..

   Post  rock  style  melodic  guitar  leads  and  experimental  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  bass  guitars  also  sound  very  powerful  along  with  a  few  leads  and  after  awhile  heavy  guitar  riffing  is  added  onto  the recording  along  with  some  grim  black  metal s creams.

  A  great  amount  of  doom  metal  elements  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and epic  in  length  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  and  when  the  music  speeds  up a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Clean  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  the  riffs  utilize  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  black  metal  feeling  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  one  track  also brings  in  acoustic  guitars  and  ethnic  music  elements  as  well  as  introducing  traces  of  ambient  into  certain  sections  of  the recording  while  a  later  song  also  adds  in  a  more  depressive  edge  to  the  vocals.

   Nagaarum  plays  a  musical style  that  takes  black  metal,  doom  and  post  metal a nd  mixes  it  with  some  experimental  and  ambient  elements  to  create  something  original,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  science,  space  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nagaarum  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  doom,  post  metal,  experimental  and d ark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vassal  Nevelt"  and  "Kolantar".  8  out  of  10.
